Dear Lorrie, Rachel and Sue

Mother, David and I stand with you today...if only in spirit. We grieve with you. We continue to send our love and our prayers to all of you.

My memories of Dona go back a few decades. Our Dads were brothers and were close all of their lives. Our families lived on the same side of town in Birmingham. I remember many visits to the house on Martinwood Lane. Dona, Jimmy, Lorrie, David and I grew up around each other. While our parents visited upstairs, we kids played in the basement. I remember cutting up, laughter and playing records...lots of records. There are certain songs and bands from that era that always make me think of Dona.

Dona is about 3 and a half years older than me. Therefore, she reached her teen years before I did. I was in awe of Dona. She was a Teenager. She wore teenage clothes and did teenage things. She had lip gloss in little pots. Pots of lip gloss were all the rage among the Teen Set in the late Sixties. I was fascinated with those pots of lip gloss. Dona gave me one of hers! She made a Pre-teen girl's day. I remember putting that little pink pot of lip gloss in my purse when I went to school. I thought that I had reached Teen Sophistication! Yes, Dona give me the first of countless pots of lip gloss that would have in my life...and I've never forgotten that kind gesture.

Dona and I go way way back.......probably around 1973. Although Dona and I did not get to see or talk to each other, my love for her . was still so strong. She was one of the sweetest and loving persons I knew. Her middle name “Joy” was just that..she brought much joy wherever she was. it is with great sorrow that I say s he will certainly be mi ssed. She has now gained her angel wings.

Dona was a great friend when we were in 6th grade on. I have sweet memories of good times in Girl Scouts, birthday parties, after-school play at each other’s homes, and classes and activities in high school. She was always a great listener with a wonderful sense of humor. Her beautiful smile made anyone in her presence feel better!
