Franklin Pittman Obituary

Franklin Tyner Pittman, affectionately known as "Jack," passed away peacefully on 12 July 2024, at the age of 88 surrounded by loved ones.
Jack was born on 24 August 1935 in Bay Springs, MS to John Dillard Tyner Pittman and Mattie Stockman Pittman. From a young age, he exhibited a remarkable curiosity and passion for life that would define his journey. Jack excelled academically and socially, forging deep friendships that would endure a lifetime.

After graduating from Bay Springs High School, Jack pursued his academic ambitions at Mississippi State University, where he earned a degree in Geology with continued studies rewarding him a Master of Science degree. His thirst for knowledge and innovation led him to a successful career with Hycalog in North American and South American oil fields. He spent 14 years with the Carborundum Abrasives Company as a sales engineer, bonded abrasives. In 1973 Jack founded Pittman Industrial Marketing, Inc. where he spent the balance of his career nurturing and guiding others to excel in Truth. Jack worked until he was 85.

Jack was not only known for his professional prowess but also for his unwavering kindness and generosity. He touched the lives of many with his quick wit, infectious laugh, and genuine empathy. His love for his wife Barbara, children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren rewarded him with joy.

In 1959, Jack met the love of his life, Barbara, with whom he shared 63 years of marriage filled with love and companionship. Together, they raised 3 wonderful children: Mitzi Roberts, Laura Niemann and John Pittman. Jack was a devoted husband and father, always prioritizing his family above all else.

Jack's passing leaves an immense void in the lives of his family, friends, and all who had the privilege of knowing him. He will be fondly remembered and deeply missed for his wisdom, humor, and unwavering love.

Jack is survived by his beloved Barbara, children Mitzi, Laura and John (Liz), 8 grandchildren, 7 great grandchildren and extended family. His memory will forever be cherished by all who knew him and his passion for story telling will be remembered.

A private memorial service to celebrate Jack's life will be held with inurnment at Canterbury United Methodist Church, Birmingham, AL. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the American Diabetes Association or the National Kidney Foundation, both causes close to Jack's heart.

Rest in peace, dear Jack. Your spirit will live on in our hearts forever.
