Alan Miller Obituary

Alan Miller, 64, Oak Creek, Colo., formerly or Mandan, passed away at his residence from medical illness on May 20, 2017. Cremation has taken place. There will be a short ceremony at 3 p.m. Friday, June 30, at North Dakota Veterans Cemetery, Mandan, in honor of our beloved brother Alan. Family and friends are welcome.

Alan Miller was born June 13, 1952, to the late Jack and Clara (Stein) Miller. He was the oldest of seven siblings, grew up on a farm west of Mandan and attended Sweetbriar grade school. In 1969, the family moved into Mandan where he attended Mandan High School and graduated in 1970. He attended college at University of North Dakota until enlisting in the Army in 1972, receiving an Honorable Discharge in 1977.

Alan spent most of his life in and around the mountains of Colorado that he truly loved. His passion was fly fishing, hunting moose and elk, and making multiple trips to Alaska with good friends to fish for halibut and salmon. It was not unusual for him to go off by himself for days to fish and hunt; he treasured the solitude.

Alan is survived by his daughter, ReNae (Tom) Jochim; his grandchildren, TJ and Riley Ball; his brothers, Dale Miller and Marlin (Nancy) Miller; his sisters, Vicky (Dave) Butler, Darla (Larry) Schaff, Janelle (Joe) Dinneen and Laurie (Mike) Hermanson; and many nieces and nephews.

Alan was preceded in death by his parents, Jack and Clara Miller; and his paternal grandparents, Raphael and Katherina (Barnhardt) Miller and John and Rose (Zander).
