Dr. Bela Alexander Balogh, Ph.D., Eagan, Minn., formerly of Bismarck, passed away peacefully on July 8, 2012. A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, July 14, at O'Hallaran & Murphy Funeral Home, St. Paul, Minn. Visitation will be held from 9:30 a.m. up to the beginning of the service. He will be laid to rest in Montana.
Bela was born Feb. 3, 1941, in Budapest, Hungary, to Sandor and Erzsbet (Schwartzkopf) Balogh. Bela immigrated to the United States when he was 17 years old and graduated from Butte High School in Butte, Mont., in 1959. He attended the University of Montana in Missoula, Mont., where he received his master's degree in psychology and doctorate degree in philosophy. He moved his family to Bismarck and spent his entire career as a professor at the University of Mary, in the Psychology Department.
He had many interests, but loved to coach and participate in sports. He played an integral part in the creation of the youth soccer program in Bismarck. Many winters were also spent coaching his daughters' teams in the youth hockey program.
He is survived by his wife of 47 years, Lois Jeanne "Kelly"; four children, Sandi Balogh, Bismarck, Aaron (Kim, fiancee) Balogh, Dallas, Betsy (Mike) Wells, Jamestown, N.Y., and Suzy (Jay) Coopersmith, Eagan, Minn.; eight grandchildren, Sarah, Nolan, Hannah, Alexandra "Ally," James, Anika, Brianna and Bianca; a brother, Sandor (Aniko) Balogh, Budapest, Hungary; and numerous nieces and nephews in Hungary.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and one great-grandson.
