Benjamin Koivula Obituary

Benjamin Victor Koivula

BOTTINEAU - Benjamin Victor Koivula, beloved son and brother, went to be with his Heavenly Father on Friday, June 17, 2022.

Ben was born in Minot, ND November 17, 1999. Ben was baptized into God's family at St. John's Lutheran Church, rural Upham. Ben and his family lived in Bismarck for most of his childhood. He was confirmed into the faith at Charity Lutheran Church in Bismarck. He graduated with honors from Shiloh Christian School in 2018. He continued his education at NDSU in Fargo and graduated Magna Cum Laude with a Bachelor of Science degree in computer science.

Ben will be forever remembered for his kind heart and willingness to help others. He would be the first one to help a friend with their homework if they needed it. His group of friends and family were precious to him. He loved anything "techy", reading and playing online games with his brother, cousins and friends.

Jasper was his special pal, his beloved dog. They had a special bond. Jasper would also "encourage" or "make" Ben take him outside to play frisbee, go for walks and be there for Ben when he needed him. Jasper had a special way to bring joy and comfort to Ben.

He will be forever loved and missed by his parents: Mark and Amy Koivula (Bottineau); and his older brother, Justin Koivula (United Kingdom); grandparents: Ray and Diane Boll (Newburg), Larry Koivula and Linda Ledda (Wetaskiwin, AB), and Judy "BaBa" Koivula (Lorette, MB); aunts and uncles: Joe and Angela Bender (Bottineau), Nathan and Julie Boll (Newburg) and Cindy Koivula and Isaac Orr (Lorette, MB); his precious cousins: Alex Bristol (Duluth, MN), Abby Bristol (Belle Fourche, SD) Avery and Charlie Boll (Newburg) Fred Kryzanowski (Lorette, MB) Tina and Dallin Koivula (Lorette, MB) and Jeffrey Fisher (Lorette, MB).

In lieu of flowers, the family requests a donation in Ben's memory to a mental health service or support group of your choice. Our prayer is that our loss can prevent another - discuss mental health with anyone who will listen. Psalm 34:18: "The Lord is close to the broken hearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit".

The funeral to celebrate Ben's life will be held on Friday, June 24, 2022 at 10:00 a.m. at Grace Lutheran Church in Bottineau, ND. Pastor Craig Jennings will be officiating. Ben's memorial service will be livestreamed on the Grace Lutheran Brethren Church's facebook page.

Arrangements were with Nero Funeral Home in Bottineau. Friends may sign the online register book at www.nerofuneralhome.net
