Beverly Huschka Obituary

Beverly Ann (Agnew) Huschka

March 2, 1944 - November 18, 2024

Beverly Ann Huschka, a beloved educator, mentor, and theater enthusiast, passed away November 18, 2024, at the age of 80. Born March 2, 1944, in Dickinson, N.D., she was the daughter of Robert and Ruth Agnew.

Bev married Martin Huschka in 1971 in Dickinson. Together they built a life filled with love, learning, and family. Bev dedicated her life to education, earning her bachelor's degree from Dickinson College and master's degree from Purdue University. She started her teaching career at Dickinson High School and Dickinson College before joining the University of Mary in 1980. During her more than 30 years at the university, Bev was a founding professor of the communication department and helped build the theater program into a community institution. Her passion for teaching and her insistence on excellence inspired generations of students.

At the University of Mary, Bev directed countless drama and musical productions. She was also a tireless advocate for personal liberties and an activist for the Democratic Party.

Bev's vibrant spirit, dedication to education, and love of family will live on in all who knew her.

Bev is survived by her sons, Robert (Amy) Huschka and Ryan (Lauren) Huschka; her granddaughters, Jazmine, Sabrina and Zoe Huschka; her great-grandson, Atlas Huschka; and many other loving relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Martin, daughter Tiffany Huschka, and grandson Martin Henry Huschka.

The family is planning a celebration of life for spring or summer 2025 in Bismarck, N.D. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the University of Mary Sister Thomas Welder Endowed Scholarship Fund in Bev's name. Donations can be made online at give.umary.edu or mailed to: University of Mary, Attention: Mission Advancement, 7500 University Drive, Bismarck, ND 58504.

Bev was a true professional in every sense of the word. She will be remembered as a leader in the field of communication and theater. Her production of John Brown´s Body was top drawer. She shines as a member of the North Dakota Speech and Theatre Hall of Fame. May she rest in peace

Bev Agnew and I were Midget classmates at Dickinson Central. signed seating was done alphabetically, Bev and were often seated within note passing distance, Bev as a superior and polite student not distracted by guys like me. We did see one another at U Mary events regularly over the years. Bev added much good to this world during her time here.

I was honored to work with Bev on some of the early productions at U Mary as well as community productions...she was brilliant...and cordial, self effacing and amazingly fastidious in finite detail. I stood in awe...Shirley Staiger..Backstage Inc.
