HARVEY - Chuck Lang, 63, Harvey, died Dec. 22, 2015, from cancer at St. Aloisius Medical Center, Harvey. Services will be held at 2 p.m. Monday, Dec. 28, at Bethel Baptist Church, Harvey. Burial will be at Sunnyside Cemetery, Harvey.

Visitation will be held from 2 to 7 p.m. Sunday at Hertz Funeral Home, Harvey.

Charles "Chuck" Lang was born May 26, 1952, in Bismarck. He was the son of Bill and Luella (Schlenker) Lang. He graduated from Goodrich High School on May 20, 1970. Chuck helped on the family farm, where they raised cattle and grain farmed. Chuck later joined the family farming operation. He worked part time for Don Schimke Home Builders of Harvey and later purchased what was to become Lang Excavation. Bill and Chuck started Lang's Custom Combining, taking their equipment to Texas and back on the harvest run for several years.

Chuck and three friends, Dennis Weinmann, Dean Hieb and Hank Helm formed the band Crystal, the most popular band in central North Dakota, where he played lead guitar and shared lead vocals. At one point the band was booked solid for three years in advance. He also toured with a Gospel group for a time.

Chuck married Brenda Cole on May 10, 1980, in Goodrich. They lived on the family farm near Goodrich and later moved to Harvey. Together, they had two children, Jessica Jo and Tyler James. Chuck accepted the Lord as his savior as a young man and was a member of the First Baptist Church of Goodrich.

In December 1986, he attended the World Wide College of Auctioneering in Mason City, Iowa, and was a member of the North Dakota Auctioneers Association, serving on its board of directors for 12 years and served as president in 1999 and 2011. He won the title of North Dakota State Champion Merchandise Auctioneer in 1998 and later that year received a call to do a two-day large construction equipment auction in Japan which grew to 28-30 overseas auctions per year in eight countries around the world.

Chuck was a member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles and went through the local and state chairs serving as state president in 2001-2002 and was appointed regional president in 2003-2004. Chuck was awarded Grand Aerie Brother of The Year in 2013. Chuck was inducted into the North Dakota State Eagles Hall of Fame on June 8, 2006, and was elected to Grand Aerie National office in 2006 at the International F.O.E. convention in Orlando, Fla. In 2015, Chuck was installed as Grand Worthy President.

Chuck loved to hunt and fish and was very proud of his extraordinary whitetail deer collection. He was drawn for a once in a lifetime North Dakota elk hunt in 2011, harvesting a beautiful 6x7 bull, which hangs in the First International Bank of Harvey. He loved his grandchildren dearly and enjoyed going to church with them and also taking them fishing and hunting.

Chuck is survived by his wife, Brenda; his daughter, Jessie Tipton; his son, Tyler Lang; four grandchildren, Tyson, Teagan, Tayvia and Tayton, all of Harvey; his mother, Luella Lang; his brother, Ken (Pam) Lang; his sister, Jo Lynn (Mark) Pennington, all of Bismarck; his sister-in-law, Joan (Merle) Larson, Adams; his sister-in-law, Suellen (Stuart) Brunsvold, Park River; his brother-in-law, Dennis (Trisha) Cole, Park River; his father-in-law and mother-in-law, Dennis and Minnie Cole, Park River; and numerous nieces and nephews, aunts and uncles and cousins.
