Clara Burnstad

WISHEK- Clara G. Burnstad, 98, Wishek, formerly of Burnstad, died Aug. 1, 2005, at Wishek Home for the Aged. Services will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, Aug. 5, at Trinity Lutheran Church, Napoleon. Burial will be at Red Lake Community Cemetery, Burnstad.

Visitation will be held from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. today at Dahlstrom Funeral Home. Napoleon, where a prayer service will be held at 7:30 p.m.

Clara Burnstad was born Nov. 9, 1915, to George G. and Johanna (Peters) Lubbers in Burnstad. She grew up and attended school, graduating from Burnstad High School in 1933. She attended Ellendale Normal Industrial College and graduated in 1937. Clara was united in marriage to LeRoy (Pat) Burnstad Jan. 16, 1942, at Napoleon. They moved to Massachusetts and South Carolina while LeRoy was in the service. They moved back to the Burnstad area where Clara taught school for 15 years at country school and Burnstad School, until its closing. She served as the Post Mistress for the Post Office in Burnstad until it closed.

Clara was a 50-year member of Beaver Lake Homemakers Club, served on the Logan County Museum and Historical Society, volunteered at Wishek Home for the Aged and Napoleon Care Center. She was honored with the Napoleon Alumnus of the Year Award in 1981. In October 2000, Clara moved into the Wishek Home for the Aged.

Clara is survived by one daughter, Pat (Ruben) Auch, Wishek; two sisters; Viola Laudon, Keiszer, Ore., and Jean (Walter) Rottsick, Pick City; one son-in-law, Hilluard Kemmet, Dawson; five grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, LeRoy; her parents; one daughter, Norma Jean; two great-grandchildren; four brothers; and two sisters.

What wonderful memories I have of Clara. She was my teacher in the Burnstad school and a family friend. My deepest sympathies to her family. She will truly be missed but will also always be remembered with deep fondness.
