Curtis Fried Obituary

Curtis Fried

Curtis J. Fried, DVM, passed away January 3, 2021 at Fargo Sanford Hospital. Visitation will be Friday, January 8, 2021 from 5:00-7:00 PM at Weigel Funeral Home, Mandan. A Funeral service will be held on Saturday, January 9, 2021 at 11:00 AM at Cathedral of the Holy Spirit, Bismarck.

Our beloved brother, Curtis, is now resting peacefully with our Lord. Curtis J. Fried, DVM, was united with Christ on January 3, 2021. While our family is deeply saddened by his passing, we are grateful for our faith, knowing he will live on eternally with Jesus.

Curtis was born in Hettinger, ND on February 12, 1952 to Albert and Helen Fried. He began first grade at the local country school and then attended the Selfridge Public School. Curtis went on to further his higher education at Dickinson State College and NDSU, Fargo. He then earned his degree with a Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine (DVM) from Oklahoma State University, graduating with honors.

For many years Curtis owned a Veterinary Clinic in McLaughlin, SD. He then moved his business to Britton, SD and in later years lived in Pollock, SD. Several years ago, Curtis moved back to his hometown of Selfridge and recently resided at Miller Pointe Nursing Home in Mandan.

Curtis always had a love of horses. He enjoyed riding and training them in his young adulthood, but his academic pursuits demanded most of his time after leaving his childhood farm. Curtis had a passion for Native American history and had an impressive collection of artifacts that he personally found over many years. One of his favorite hobbies was fishing on the Missouri River.

Our dear brother loved his Catholic faith, he served many with his generosity, and he lived a life that showed God's love and mercy. Our family is grateful to have had 68 years with his beautiful soul.

Curtis is survived by his brothers, Dennis Fried, Mike (Mikki) Fried, Bob (Mavis) Fried, Bernie (Melva) Fried; sisters, Kathy Schantz, Pat Fried-Hill, Carmen (Mark) Walker; seven nieces/nephews; and nine great-nieces/nephews.

Curtis has been united in Christ with his parents, Albert and Helen; and his brother, Bryan.

Our veterinary class was small enough that we grew close with all the time spent together. Curt was a good friend with a special drive for knowledge.

There were five of us from North Dakota in our veterinary class and thus shared a special bond. Curt was the smartest of the bunch. We will never forget him.
