Dan was born Oct. 23, 1958, to Gilbert and Josephine (Fettig) Scheeler, in Dickinson, N.D. He grew up in Dickinson, where he graduated from Trinity High School in 1976, and Dickinson State University in 1982. He started his career in insurance with the Wald Agency from 1982 to 1988. From 1988 to 2001, he worked for American Hardware Insurance.
In July 2001, he continued his career with American Insurance in the Bismarck branch. Dan held the Certified Insurance Counselor designation and had received many awards for exemplary service over the years. He was known for his honesty and integrity in his professional and personal life.
In March 1980, Dan met Ronda at a dance, and on June 17, 1982, they wed in Dickinson, and have been happily dancing their way through life together ever since.
He was a member of the Elks and United Church of Christ.
Dan was a perfect husband and father. He loved his three sons so very much. You could see the pride in his eyes every time he looked at them. He taught them so many things. There weren't many things that Dan couldn't fix, rebuild or repair. This he learned from his dad and he passed on to his sons. He loved to golf, hunt and fish with his boys, and they know that this year dad will help them find their biggest buck ever. Dan was truly a hockey dad in every sense of the word. Win, lose or draw he always had the words of encouragement and pride from them.
Dan is survived by his wife, Ronda; three sons and a daughter-in-law, Tyler and Andi, Cherry Point, N.C., and Logan and Kirby, both of Bismarck; his grandchildren, Brayden and Cleo Beth, both of Cherry Point; his parents, Gilbert and Josephine Scheeler, Dickinson; his sisters, Danette Gayda, and her husband, Jerry, Dickinson, and Carol Jean Pachinger, and her husband, Russ, Las Vegas; three nieces; two nephews; and his father-in-law and mother-in-law, Robert C. and Janie Henderson, Hawley, Texas.
He was preceded in death by his sister, Cheryl Scheeler; and his grandparents.
In lieu of flowers memorials are preferred to the Congenital Heart Information Network in honor of Dan and his granddaughter, Cleo Beth. Information can be found at www.tchin.org.
