David Arthur Bonogofsky, 76, Bismarck, formally of Carson, lost his battle with cancer and a stroke Nov. 12, 2018, at a Bismarck hospital. A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. Monday, Nov. 19, at Bismarck Funeral Home. The family requests no flowers or strong fragrances. Burial will be held at Carson Community Cemetery at a later date.
Dave was born March 27, 1942, in Brisbane, to Matt and Katie (Kraft) Bonogofsky. He attended grade school in Brisbane and graduated from Carson High School. Dave was very athletic. He excelled in all sports and held the state record for the pole vault for many years. He was also an avid softball player throughout his young and adult life. He also enjoyed fishing, and playing cards, especially pinochle. Dave spent two years in the U.S. Army and was stationed in Germany.
In 1964, Dave married his high school sweetheart Marlynn Johnson. They farmed and ranched in the Carson area for 27 years. They had three children, Michelle, David, and Lori.
In 1991, Dave and Marlynn moved to Bismarck. Dave worked construction for a few years, then as a conductor for BNSF Railroad for the next 24 years.
Blessed to have shared in his life are his wife, Marlynn; daughters, Dr. Michelle Bonogofsky, and Lori (Lance) Doerr; grandson, Joshua Doerr; step-granddaughter, Kaberly Doerr; sisters, Bernice Zimmerman and Margaret Emch; brother and sister-in-law, Lowell and Lavina Johnson; and numerous nephews and nieces.
He was preceded in death by his infant son, David; his parents; brothers, Jake, Frank, Gottlieb, and Jim; sisters, Agnes, Josephine, Anne, Mary, and Dorothy; in-laws, Omer and Irene Johnson; and sister-in-law, Mary Jane Johnson.
