David Edelman Obituary

David "Dave" Edelman, age 63, passed away Wednesday, November 12, at Abbott NW Hospital in Minneapolis, MN surrounded by family.

Dave was born July 12, 1962, to Manual and LaVonne Edelman in Park Rapids, MN. He lived in Lake George, MN until second grade and then his family moved to the Grand Rapids area. He graduated from Greenway High School in 1980. After graduation he accepted a job working in a metal foundry in Hibbing, MN, until the iron mines closed. He was then laid off. It was during this time that he met Colleen Surface. They were married August 12, 1983. Five days later they moved to Wolf Point, MT, where Colleen had accepted her first teaching job.

Life then took them to Bismarck, ND, where they made their life together. They welcomed Brandi Rae Edelman into their lives on February 27, 1988. Dave worked a couple of places until he was hired by Bismarck Public Schools as mechanic and bus driver. He then moved on and worked for Kim's Appliance and Capital City Restaurant Supply until he retired in 2024.

Dave and his family spent many a day traveling anywhere there was an adventure waiting. Special places were the mountains of Montana, camping, hiking, whitewater rafting, exploring or skiing. The Beartooth and seeing the big Montana Sky being favorites. He and Colleen enjoyed many trips with friends to various places in Mexico, Costa Rica and Alaska. He enjoyed the banana daiquiris, snorkeling and swimming in the oceans in Mexico.

His motorcycle was a favorite way to travel. He bought the bike of his dreams, a 2005 Triumph Rocket III. It didnt sit still very long as he loved the speed and freedom it gave him.

Dave also had a passion for hunting, especially deer hunting in MN with his family. Many a year he received the "Big Buck Award". It was a time of fun, family and making memories.

When at home you could find him tinkering on cars, playing pool or his slot machines, with one or two of his many friends. Dave was always up for a game of pool.

Dave was a man of many talents. He could fix just about anything. He was kind and generous, compassionate, and was always ready to lend a hand, expecting nothing in return.

Dave is survived by Colleen Edelman of Bismarck, ND, daughter Brandi Arbach (Ben) of Hensler, ND, two grandsons, Theron and Harrison Arbach, also of Hensler, ND, parents Manual and LaVonne Edelman of Park Rapids, MN; four siblings, Diana Greeninger of Monticello, MN, Debra Lengeling (Kirk) of Grand Rapids, MN, Shelley Aase (Dan Tilly) of Faribault, MN, and Dan Edelman, of Siren, WI. There are also many aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews.

He is preceded in death by his grand parents and his brother, Jamie Edelman.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Sunday, November 23, 2025 from 3-7 p.m. at the Arctic Room, 2124 East Thayer Avenue, Bismarck, ND.

He will be greatly missed...
