Donald passed away on Saturday, December 3, 2022 at St. Benedict's Health Center, Dickinson, ND.
Donald Olson was born May 13, 1928 to Alvin and Nellie (Stafford). Donald attended Grade School in Hume Township in Slope County ND and High School at New England.
Donald married Donna Hegge on November 29, 1949 at the Rainy Butte Church. In 2021 they celebrated their 72nd wedding anniversary. They had three children; Bruce, Brad, and Barbara. They lived in Slope County for six years before moving to the Hegge farm in Hettinger County, which they later purchased from Donna's parents. The farm was homesteaded by Donna's grandparents and later was recognized as a Centennial farm. The farm remains in the family today.
Donald was a lifelong farmer with land in both Hettinger and Slope Counties. After moving to town he enjoyed calling out to the farm to get updates on planting, harvest, and rain. A regular churchgoer at Pierce Congregational, faith meant a lot to Donald. He rarely missed a Sunday and served on various church boards throughout the years. He was a member of the Lions Club in New England. He enjoyed gardening, and he and Donna always had a nice selection of flowers around the house. He liked to take daily walks on the farm, often accompanied by one of the dogs. He liked to hunt deer and pheasant. Donald and Donna enjoyed camping around the state and especially with friends and family at Hidden Valley Campground in the Black Hills.
Donald is survived by his children, son Brad (Anne) Olson, New England; daughter, Barbara (Bill) Truchan, Dickinson; grandchildren, Jennifer Olson, Warren, MN, Michael (Jennifer) Olson, New England; Jessica Olson, Dickinson; and his nieces and nephews, sister-in-law Beverly Olson. Donald was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Donna, her parents Arthur and Josephine Hegge, son Bruce Olson, brothers Charles Olson (Sister-in-law Winona), Gerald Olson.
