Dora Jensen, 90, Rapid City, S.D., formerly of Bismarck, passed away Feb. 22, 2013, at The Victorian assisted living facility, Rapid City. Services will be at held at 3 p.m. MST Monday, Feb. 25, at Black Hills Community Church, 618 E. Elk St., Rapid City, with the Rev. Art Sartorius officiating. Inurnment will follow at 2 p.m. CST Wednesday, Feb. 27, at the North Dakota State Veterans Cemetery, Mandan.
There will be a public viewing from 4 to 6 p.m. MST today at Black Hills Community Church.
Born and raised in Phoenix, Ariz., Dora worked as a bank teller and other clerical positions as a young adult before marrying Dahlen Jensen on March 24, 1949. In the following years, the couple lived in numerous places including Arizona, Michigan, New Mexico, Minnesota, California, Colorado, and North Dakota as they followed construction jobs.
In 1965, work led them to Bismarck where they lived a majority of their lives. The family by then included two sons, and Dora's life revolved around family and volunteering activities which included den mother for the Cub Scouts and numerous church activities. She was also active in Sons of Norway and the Elks.
She is survived by two sons, Robert (Shirlene) Jensen, Hazen, and Ronald (Susan) Jensen, Rapid City; a sister, Shirley Hemphill, Phoenix; a brother, Don (Sara) Brown, San Diego, Calif.; four grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Dahlen Jensen; her parents, Herschel and Florence Brown; and one brother, Laverne Brown.
