MINOT - Dorothy Lipp, 76, Minot, died Nov. 5, 2010, in a Minot hospital.
Dorothy Estella Lipp was born Jan. 22, 1934, daughter of Damian and Lucille (Gillmore) Wagner, in Strasburg, where she was raised, graduated from Strasburg High School in 1952, later received her North Dakota Standard Teaching Certificate from Valley City State College, then taught all grades at a country school in Emmons County for one year.
Dorothy married her childhood sweetheart Lloyd J. Lipp, Oct. 16, 1954, then moved with him to Norfolk, Va., where Lloyd served in the United States Navy during the Korean War. Returning to North Dakota after the war, Dorothy and Lloyd began raising a family, and she pursued another love: music. She began teaching children to play the piano - over 1500 students - and continued to do so to the day of her death.
She was a member of St. John the Apostle Catholic Church in Minot, where she had been the organist for 30 years, a member of the church's confraternity, where she consistently displayed and shared her strong devotion to her Catholic faith and her family.
Besides her love of music, she enjoyed watching her children and grandchildren's athletic events, played golf in a ladies group, and loved to collect cookie jars.
Her loving family includes her children, Bruce (Val) Lipp, Issaquah, Wash.; Laura (Tommie) Willard, Bismarck; Julie (John) LeDuc, Thief River Falls, Minn.; and Dr. Steve (Trini) Lipp, Minot. Her grandchildren, Emma Lipp; Sean, Ryan, Alissa and Brent Willard; Daniel, Lindsay and Kyle LeDuc; and Madelyn, Max and Murphy Lipp; great-grandchildren, Emersen and Ethen Willard loved their grandmother dearly. She is survived by her brother, Robert (Bernice) Wagner, Grenada Hills, Calif.; sisters, Joan (Harry) Dangerfield, Frederick, Md., Alicia Fischer, Mandan, and Sharon (Larry) Brooks, Bismarck; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins, and was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Lloyd; son, Richard; and sister, Edith Voeller.
Mass of Christian burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, Nov. 9, at St. John the Apostle Catholic Church, Minot. Interment will be at Rosehill Memorial Park, Minot.
Visitation will be held from 2 to 5 p.m. today at Thompson-Larson Funeral Home, Minot, and from 6 to 7 p.m. at St. John the Apostle Catholic Church, Minot.
Vigil prayer service will be at 7 p.m. today at St. John the Apostle Catholic Church, Minot.
Memorials are preferred for a mass said in her name.
