Dwight Franklund
Dwight Norman Franklund, age 86, of Bismarck, passed away at the Missouri Slope nursing home on Feb. 11, 2021. He was born in Baldwin on Sept. 12, 1934 to Arthur and Bertha Franklund of Baldwin. Dwight married Marlene Stolz the love of his life Sept. 2, 1961 at Zion Lutheran Church in Bismarck.
Dwight's other passion was farming. He farmed with his father and brother for many years and eventually purchased the "old family farm" which became known as "Dwight's farm." Dwight continued to assist his father until Art's retirement, then Dwight primarily raised cattle near Baldwin until "retiring" a few years ago. He and Marlene continued to work together repairing fence and other chores on the farm, after all a farmer never truly retires. In his last days, Dwight continued to share his love of farming with his family and friends.
As a young man Dwight enjoyed training his horses, singing, playing guitar, and playing horseshoes with friends and family
Dwight frequently joined his "Coffee Crew" at Kist Livestock and enjoyed their company and discussion. For many years he attended Capital Electric and Farmers Union annual meetings. Every year, Dwight looked forward to the Vollmer bull auction and would enthusiastically report about the results.
Dwight attended Grace Lutheran Brethren Church with Marlene for many years.
Dwight is survived by his wife, Marlene Franklund; sisters, Mavis Buchholz, Marlene (Kenneth) Landsberger, and Ardith Williams; sister-in-law, Carole (Howard) Lacher; brother-in-law, Bernie (Micki) Stolz, and many nieces and nephews.
Dwight was preceded in death by his parents Arthur and Bertha (Spitzer) Franklund; brother and sister-in-law, Willis Franklund and Betty (Buchholz) Schoeneman-Franklund; brothers-in-law, Clifford Williams and Rodger Buchholz; nephews, Bryan Williams and Greg Franklund and niece, Paula Lacher.
Viewing will begin 10 a.m. followed by a memorial service 11 a.m. Wednesday Feb. 17, at Grace Lutheran Brethren Church, 2400 E. Ave A, Bismarck, 58501, phone 701-258-3585. A lunch will follow the service.

Our deepest Sympathy to you, Marlene and family. Dwight was such a kind man. I remember the Strandemo picnics and the hours of hearing the ringing of horseshoes hitting the stake. Bless all of you in this very hard time. Know that we are with you in thoughts and prayers. Love, Dave and Jan Jundt
