Eleanor Kitzan
Eleanor Maie (Oster) Kitzan, 88, passed away Feb. 11, 2022 at the Baptist Health Care Center in Bismarck after a brave battle with cancer.
Services will be held 11 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 16 at Parkway Funeral Service, 2330 Tyler Parkway, Bismarck, with Rev. Merle Hoots officiating.
Burial will be in the North Dakota Veterans Cemetery.
Visitation will be held from 5-7 p.m. at Parkway Funeral Service and will continue one hour prior to the service.
Eleanor was born on Sept. 13, 1933 to John and Lydia (Bickel) Oster. She grew up in Hebron and attended Hebron Public School. Eleanor married Arthur Kitzan on April 20, 1951, in Hebron. She and Art lived and worked together on the family farm southwest of Hebron where they raised their sons, Danny, Dwight and Steven. In 1982, they moved to Bismarck where they worked as custodians for the Bismarck Public School system. Together they spent many hours volunteering at the Baptist Home.
Eleanor was a gifted gardener and was able to grow an abundance of produce in the smallest of garden spaces; canning, pickling and happily sharing the fruits of her labors. Baking for her family and friends was also a passion. She knew the favorites of each family member and prepared baked goods for holidays and special occasions, sending care packages home after each visit. She loved to play piano and organ, playing at church nearly her entire adult life. Other hobbies were crocheting, embroidery and reading. Eleanor deeply cared about her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She also had a special love for cats.
Eleanor is survived by her children, Danny (Betty) Kitzan, Hebron, Dwight (Gwen) Kitzan, Nisland, S.D., and Steven (Joy) Kitzan, Richardton; her grandchildren, Travis (Dena) Kitzan, Michelle (Cory) Hibl, Karen (Travis) Christiansen, Joshua (Heather) Kitzan, and Mariah Perbix (Jeremy Braun) and eight great-grandchildren. Also surviving are her sister, Shirley Oster; sisters-in-law, Agnes Kitzan, Eunice Bickel, and Clarice Oster, and a very special niece, Gayle Heinle.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, five brothers and two sisters.
The family would like to thank the staff at the Baptist Health Care Center and the members of the Sanford Hospice team for the excellent care provided to Eleanor.
In lieu of flowers, the family prefers memorials to the Baptist Health Care Center Chapel Fund.
