Robert Bernhard Harter was born March 26, 1942, in Kidder County, to Bernard and Harriet (Haadem) Harter. Robert grew up in Tappen and graduated from Tappen High School in 1960. He married Geraldine Thomas on Oct. 15, 1966, and they made their home in Driscoll.
Robert worked his whole life doing carpentry work starting at a very early age with his father. He built many homes and landmarks in the surrounding areas. He built his family a house and home which he continued to live in and work with until his death. He could fix anything, build anything, took pride in his garden and yard and could always be relied on to be there when someone needed help. He was a great dad and has passed on his talents, hard work ethic and sense of humor to his children. Robert was a good friend to many and always welcomed company to sit at the table and visit.
Robert served on the Driscoll Township Board for many years and the Driscoll School Board. He was a member of the Driscoll Men's Club and was sexton of the Driscoll Township Cemetery.
Robert is survived by his wife of 43 years, Geraldine; his children, Sheldon (Michele) Harter, Lisa (Harter) Wicks, Jamie Harter and Blane (Tracey) Harter; grandchildren, Nathaniel and Megan Harter, Devin and Maria Wicks and Isaiah, Jonah, Kennedy and Lincoln Harter; his brothers and sisters, Shirley (Jack) Demaray, Virgil (Gladys) Harter, Harold (Marvey) Harter, Kenney (Deb) Harter, Jean (Jim) Leuwer, Donald (Sandy) Harter and Clarence (Kathy) Harter; brother-in-law, Gordon (Ava) Thomas; sister-in-law, Gail (Rick) Harpole; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
Robert was preceded in death by his parents, Bernard and Harriet Harter; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Pete and Lucille Thomas; extended family members, friends and a special friend, Warren Wilson.
Roberts' knowledge, talents, sense of humor and friendship will be missed by many.
