Herman Cameron Obituary
FORT YATES -- Herman E. Cameron Jr., 72, Fort Yates, died July 16, 1999, in a Bismarck hospital. Services will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday at the Old BIA Gym, Fort Yates, with the Rev. Casimir Paluck officiating. Burial will be in Elkhorn Episcopal Cemetery, Little Eagle, S.D.
A wake service begins at 5 p.m. with a rosary service at 7:30 p.m., both on Wednesday at the Old BIA Gym. Visitation will be from 1-2:30 p.m. Wednesday at Perry Funeral Home, Mandan.
Herman was born on Nov. 19, 1926, at Brimley, Mich., to Herman and Frances (Hugo) Cameron Sr. He was raised and educated in Brimley. He graduated from Elbowoods High School and attended two years of college. He married Gladys Kills Alive.
He served in the U.S. Army from 1945 to 1946. Herman had many jobs, but the majority of his life he served as the Veterans Service Officer for Sioux County on the Standing Rock reservation. He was extremely dedicated to serving his fellow veterans. Graveside military rites will be provided by Albert Grass Post No. 173, Matthew American Horse Post, and Vietnam Veterans Association, and Legion posts from White Shield and New Town.
He is survived by five daughters and five sons-in-law, Shelly and Keith Palaniuk, Beulah, Kelly and Chris Davis, Bismarck, Vanessa and Aarron Carpenter, Skjatook, Okla., Constance and Melvin, Wakpala, S.D., and Jolene and Dave, Albuquerque, N.M., adopted daughter, Kathy Froelich and husband, Rodney, Selfridge; 10 sons and four daughters-in-law, Herman III, Fort Yates, Craig and Sandra, Flagstaff, Ariz., Rene and Martha, McLaughlin, S.D., Jaimie and Donald, both of Fort Yates, John, New York, Corey, Fargo, Todd, Bismarck, Shannon and Diane, Bismarck, Colin and Bobbie, Collinsville, Okla.; three sisters and two brothers-in-law, Irma and Robert Parrish, Sandra and Elmer "Fudd" LaBlanc, Geraldine Parish, all of Brimley; one brother and sister-in-law, Keith and Janis Cameron, Brimley; 33 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Herman was preceded in death by his wife, Gladys; his parents; his brother, Carl and one sister, Francis. (Perry Funeral Home, Mandan)
