Jim Hausmann Obituary
September 15, 1939 - September 20, 2025
MOORHEAD - Jim Hausmann, age 86, of Moorhead, MN, passed away on September 20, 2025.
Jim was born to Harry and Amelia Hausmann on September 15, 1939, in Hillsboro, ND. He played football and basketball in high school and at Concordia College in Moorhead, MN, where he graduated in 1961.
Jim married Janet Rendahl on June 24, 1961, at Trinity Lutheran Church, Moorhead, MN, and soon moved to the Twin Cities, where they started their family. Jim did graduate study in chemistry at the University of Minnesota, Minneapolis. Later he was an instructor at St. Thomas University in St. Paul, MN, before returning to Concordia College in 1967 to join the Admissions Office.
He was appointed director of Financial Aid in 1970, then Dean of Admissions and Financial Aid in 1973. As vice president for Admissions and Financial Aid, he retired in 2000 after 33 years of service. Out of dedication to the Concordia's mission he agreed, when asked, to come out of retirement to serve a variety of open roles at the college.
As an active member of the community, Jim served many organizations, notably as an F-M Symphony board member and as president of Fargo Rotary and Trinity Lutheran Church.
Outside of work Jim remained active, playing basketball with friends and colleagues over lunch (otherwise known as "Noon Ball"), and he ran Grandma's Marathon when he turned 40 years old. Sailing was also a lifelong passion. He had boats on Leech Lake and at the fairly rustic family cabin on Eighth Crow Wing Lake, near Nevis, MN. Many traditions, jokes, (tall) tales and general good times were had at family gathering there over many summer (and some winter) dates.
Jim is preceded in death by his parents Harry and Amelia Hausmann. He is survived by wife, Janet; sister, Lois Hanson, Bismarck, ND; children, Brynn (Eric Bergland), St. Louis Park, MN, Fredrik (Kate Fisher), Minneapolis, MN; and grandchildren, Beck and Elsa Bergland.
A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, September 27, 2025, at Trinity Lutheran Church. Refreshments to follow. The service will be live-streamed at www.wrightfuneral.com and www.trinitymhd.org.
Arrangements entrusted to Wright Funeral Home, Moorhead, MN.
In lieu of flowers, family requests that donations be made to Concordia College or Trinity Lutheran Church, both of Moorhead, MN.
