Rick was born March 26, 1947, in Duncan, Okla., the son of Einar and Priscilla Haugen. He was raised and attended school in Parshall and graduated from Parshall High School. He then attended Minot State University and graduated with a degree in business education. Rick married Ardyce Huus on June 4, 1967.
He taught business education for 10 years in Wolf Point, Mont. He then sold insurance for Farmers Union Insurance Company for three years in Dickinson, before moving back to Parshall in 1982 to take over his dad's Super Valu grocery store. Rick and Ardyce operated the Super Valu grocery store in Parshall for 13 years. He was also on the board of directors for Reservation Telephone Cooperative during that time. Then in 1995, they moved to Steele, and shortly after, they moved to Bismarck. Rick also worked at Charity Lutheran Church and Evangelical Free Church during his years in Bismarck.
Rick and Ardyce enjoyed spending each and every day together. They owned and operated Grandmas Greenhouse every summer for 12 years. They also enjoyed traveling and selling their crafts at "Pride of Dakota" shows. Most of all, Rick really enjoyed his five grandchildren. He loved traveling and going to all of their activities, games and events. He really loved the Lord with all of his heart. He was a very kind and faithful man. He was always willing to help anybody and do anything for anyone. Rick dedicated his life to loving and serving his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. He read the bible and did his devotions faithfully every morning. He could easily recite bible verses and passages. Rick is greatly loved and will be missed by so many people that he touched.
Rick is survived by his wife, Ardyce; his daughters, Pamela (Dan) Donlin and Lynette (Shannon) Julson; and five grandchildren, Mallory (17), Jocelyn (14), Jack (8), Ty (6) and Luke (5). He is also survived by his mother, Priscilla; three brothers, Dave, Bob and Charles; and three sisters, Marge, Phyllis and Linda.

Rick was a great friend. I have many memories of him. Basketball games, track meets, golfing, or just shooting the breeze. He was always willing to help anyone who needed it. A great family man who will be missed by so many! RIP my friend!!
