After school, John served in the U.S. Air Force. After his military service, he fancied himself an entrepreneur and found his niche in carpentry and drywall finishing, where he realized great success. After retiring from the Union, John acquired his CDL and eventually founded his own trucking company. In his retirement, he loved to have his home full of family.
Wherever John went, he made friends, often regaling strangers with his stories. He could really work a room and thrived in social settings. He played guitar, loved motorcycles and horses, and was an avid karaoke singer; he enjoyed fishing and hosting gatherings; he was also a fan of Westerns, and football, notably the Minnesota Vikings and the Seattle Seahawks.

My family had the pleasure of living across the street from John for a few years. He was a kind man who loved to stop and chat. He will be missed.

RIP John. We were old Air Force pals stationed in Grand Forks during 73-74. On weekends during the summer of 73 John and I would ride to Mandan for short visits. He had a Chevy Nova that was souped up like a racecar and our drives from Grand Forks to Mandan were never boring. He liked to drive fast.
