Ladislaus Brydl Obituary

The Rev. Ladislaus Charles Brydl died June 12, 1999, in a Dickinson care center. He was 96. Services will be held at 10 a.m. MDT Wednesday, at Church of Saints Peter and Paul, New Hradec, with the Bishop Paul A. Zipfel presiding. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

Visitation will be from 8 a.m.-7 p.m. MDT today, at Mischel-Olson Chapel, Dickinson. A vigil service for Father Brydl will be held tonight at 7:30 p.m. MDT at the Church of St. Wenceslaus, Dickinson. Visitation will continue after the vigil service at the church.

Father Brydl was born on April 26, 1903, in Alexandrovka, Russia, the son of John and Viktoria (Kostelecky) Brydl. He attended grade school in Willmen, N.D. He attended high school and received his theological training at St. Procopius in Lisle, Ill. He was ordained to the priesthood for the Diocese of Bismarck on April 7, 1931, at New Hradec, by the Most Reverend Vincent Wehrle.

Father Brydl's first assignment in the Diocese of Bismarck was as pastor at the Church of St. James, Powers Lake, from 1931-1933. He then became pastor at the Church of the Queen of the Most Holy Rosary, Stanley, from 1933-1934, at which time he was appointed pastor of the Church of Saints Peter and Paul, New Hradec. Father Brydl served the parish in New Hradec from 1934 until 1984, at which time he retired. Father Brydl resided in Dickinson until September 1994, when he moved to Emmaus Place in Bismarck. He lived there until March 1999, when he moved to St. Benedict's Health Center in Dickinson.

Father Brydl is survived by three nieces and three nephews and their families.
