WILTON - LaVonne E. Hochhalter, 80, Wilton, passed away Oct. 25, 2016, at Sanford Health Continuing Care Center on Sunset, Mandan, just 28 days after being diagnosed with advanced cancer. Mass of Christian burial will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 29, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Wilton, with the Rev. Frank J. Schuster as celebrant. Burial will be at the church cemetery.
A parish rosary will be held at 7 p.m. Friday at Sacred Heart Catholic Church followed by a prayer service. Visitation will continue one hour prior to the service on Saturday at the church.
LaVonne was born Dec. 14, 1935, in Lisbon, the daughter to Julius and Rosa (Giovannoni) Thies. She graduated from Riverdale High School in 1955. LaVonne was very proud of the fact that her father helped build the Garrison Dam.
On March 3, 1957, she married Donald R. Hochhalter. They made their home in the Wing and Regan area, until Don passed away in 2000. LaVonne then moved into Wilton to be closer to her children.
LaVonne worked in the school system most of her life, first as a teacher and later as an aide, cook, janitor and finally as a volunteer in the Wilton School lunch room.
Following LaVonne's recent hospitalization, her children, grandchildren, extended family and friends were able to spend time with her and say their goodbyes to her.
Those blessed to have shared in her life include her five children, Rosemary (Paul Jr.) Patrick, Wilton, Linda (Bill) Gregoryk, Bismarck, Joan (Gary) Sawicki, Bismarck, Ronald (Jacqueline) Hochhalter, Wilton, and Sandra (Jay) Spitzer, Wilton; 13 grandchildren, Jason, William, and RJ Gregoryk, Joshua and Jesse Patrick, Christopher and Jami Sawicki, Corey and Braden Hendershot, Alexis Hochhalter, Sarah Clausen and Sally and Thomas Spitzer; and 11 great-grandchildren.
LaVonne was preceded in death by her husband, Donald; and her parents.
