Lawrence Daniel Wilhelmson, age 85, passed away peacefully on May 7th, 2024, surrounded by his loving family at his home. He was born on February 20th, 1939, in Staples, Minnesota, to Mildred and Norman Wilhelmson. Affectionately known as Dan, Lawrence lived a full life driven by his entrepreneurial spirit, deep faith, and love for his family.
After graduating from Staples High School in 1957, Dan embarked on a journey leading him to various telecommunications industry roles. His career path began as a lineman climbing telephone poles before his honorable service in the Army during the Vietnam War, where he received commendations for his selfless dedication to his country.
Dan's professional journey culminated in a 28-year tenure with Northwestern Bell (later US West), where he held several positions of increasing responsibility. His dedication and leadership skills were further honed when he transitioned to Consolidated Telephone Cooperative (CTC) as CEO and General Manager, guiding the company to new heights and earning industry recognition.
Beyond his professional accomplishments, Dan's unwavering commitment to his Catholic faith was a cornerstone of his life. He served as the State Deputy for the Knights of Columbus, a testament to his deep-rooted values and dedication to his community. After retiring, Dan and his wife, Kathleen, resided in Dickinson, ND, and later Palm Desert, where he enjoyed golfing and cherished gatherings with friends.
Dan is survived by his daughters Kristi (Dean Bresciani), Karin (John Stoner), Cheri (Brad Qvale), and Jennifer, grandsons Blaine and Robert Finneseth, siblings Julieanne, Tim, Michael, and Patrick, along with numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife Kathleen, sister Marilee, mother Mildred, and father Norman.
A funeral service will be held for Dan at 11:00 am on Friday, July 19th, at St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church in Lake Park, MN, followed by a celebration of life at the home of Kristi Hanson and Dean Bresciani 14752 Victory Lane, Lake Park, MN 56554.
