Linda Louise Mueller Degroot, 65, Kinder, La., passed away at 7:54 p.m. on Friday, May 5, 2017, in a Lake Charles, La., hospital.
Linda was born on Oct. 29, 1951, in Harvey. She was a graduate of Jamestown High School and furthered her education at North Dakota State University, receiving a degree in nursing in 1976. During her four decade career she worked at several hospitals in the United States, most recently at CHI St. Alexius Health in Bismarck, and finishing her career at Lake Charles Memorial Hospital. She was of the Lutheran faith.
She enjoyed life to the fullest and had an infectious smile. Linda enjoyed spending time gardening, painting, collecting antiques, landscape designing, reading, traveling, cooking, canning, and playing pool. She was the founder of the Iowa City Women's 8 Ball League. In her free time she would make occasional trips to the local casinos. Linda had a heart for animals and loved her rescue dogs, Kera, Bella, and Peaches and also her lovebird, Gilligan.
Those left to cherish her memory are her husband and companion, Carl Semmes, Kinder, La.; her mother, Gloria Mueller, Jamestown; son, Sam Degroot (Jen), Jamestown; grandsons, Kaden and Derek Degroot; and five siblings, Niles Mueller (Mayda), Jamestown, Cindy Tyley (Bruce), LaGrange, Ill., and their son, Nathan, Bryan Mueller (Deb), Keokuk, Iowa, and their children, Matt, Aimie, and Emily, JoAnn Nehls (Mike), Groton, S.D., and their children, Ben, April Jo, and Jordan, and Kelli Waddingham (Rex), New Salem. She also leaves behind her in-laws, Paul and Estelle Semmes, Jennings, La., Greg and Julie Lessigne, Toledo Bend, La., Marty Semmes, Crowley, La., Danny and Lisa Semmes, Jennings, La., Ronnie and Vicky Semmes, Minden, La., Eddy and Sherry LeBlanc, Jennings, La., Joe and Sue Semmes, Jennings, La., John and Linda Semmes, Hope Mills, N.C., and Ben and Estelle Monic, Evangeline, La.
She was preceded in death by her father, Peter H. Mueller.
Per Linda's wishes, cremation was entrusted to Johnson Funeral Home in Lake Charles, La.
