Marilyn Ann Bakken, 87, Bismarck, passed away Nov. 30, 2017, at Missouri Slope Lutheran Care Center, Bismarck. Services will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 2, at DaWise-Perry Funeral Services, Mandan, with The Rev. Christina Martin officiating. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. Burial will be at 1 p.m. Monday, Dec. 4, in Highland Cemetery, Fairdale.
Marilyn was born Jan. 9, 1930, at home on the farm in Fairdale, to Edwin and Frances (Mulvaney) Sabie. She was raised and educated in Fairdale. In 1947, she married Lloyd Bakken in Crookston, Minn., and together they had eight children. Lloyd passed away in 1991. Marilyn was proud of her Norwegian heritage and is known for her delicious lefse. She also was an excellent seamstress. She and her husband were farmers and later they both worked in the grain elevator business. Marilyn worked alongside her husband as his bookkeeper. After retirement, she and her husband, Lloyd, attended the University of Phoenix, taking classes in accounting.
She is survived by two daughters and sons-in-law, Rebecca and Barry Mason, Bowman, and Patty and Steven Schiermeister, Lincoln; five sons and four daughters-in-law, Lloyd Jr. and Patty, Hazelhurst, Wisconsin, Paul and Shirley, Grand Forks, Dennis, Coeur d'Alene, Idaho; Owen and Deanna, Dickinson, and David and Pia, Phoenix; one son-in-law, Michael Finck, 18 grandchildren, three step-grandchildren, and numerous great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
Marilyn was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Lloyd; sister, Kay Reis; and brothers, Everett and Edwin Sabie; daughter, Anita Finck.
