Marion Sitter Obituary

Marion Sitter

Marion Sitter, 76, Bismarck, died Dec. 21, 2006, at her residence. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 23, at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Mandan, with the Rev. Patrick Schumacher as celebrant and the Revs. Ed Wehner and Marvin Klemmer as concelebrants. Burial will be held at 9 a.m. Tuesday in the North Dakota Veterans Cemetery, south of Mandan.

Visitation will be held from 1 to 9 p.m. today at Weigel Funeral Home, Mandan, where a parish vigil/rosary will be held at 7 p.m. Visitation will continue one hour before services at the church Saturday.

Marion was born Aug. 1, 1930, in Bismarck, the daughter of Carl and Louise (Schonert) Bredy. On Nov. 3, 1948, she was joined in marriage to Benjamin Sitter Sr. at St. Mary's Catholic Church, Bismarck. Marion and Ben owned a grocery store, which became a big part of their lives.

Marion had many interests and hobbies that she occupied her time with, but above all, family came first in her life. Sharing time with them was her highpoint. Camping with her husband and family was always enjoyed. Helping to baby-sit her grandchildren and great-grandchild was certainly a pleasure. Marion enjoyed gardening, but even more, she enjoyed canning the fruits of her labor. Playing cards was a common pastime of hers, with 31 and Blitz being among her favorite card games.

Marion's faith was constantly evident in her lifestyle. She was active in her church, serving as an usher and greeter. She was also a chaplain with the VFW and very involved in activities with the Knights of Columbus. Marion made sure that everyday she took time to pray the rosary.

Although Marion was very independent, she was known for her wonderful ability to always be the "life of the party." She possessed a wonderful talent for making people laugh.

Marion's joyful attitude and gentle nature will be deeply missed by three daughters and sons-in-law, Roxane (Wally) Erhardt, Bismarck, Trish (Richard) Bahm, Mandan, and Mary (Jim Jr.) Wolf, Bismarck; six sons and daughters-in-law, Jacob (Nadine), Crookston, Minn., Benjamin Jr. (Jan), Tom (Cathy), Joe (Raylette) and Marvin (Jenae), all of Bismarck, and Patrick (Lori), Mandan; 20 grandchildren; one great-grandchild; and one brother, David Bredy, Billings, Mont.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Benjamin, who died March 17, 1992; six sisters, Clara Aloys, Bertha Leary, Margaret Keppers, Hilda Froelke, Edna Fitterer and Pauline Kovasich; and three brothers, Gustave, Art and Bill Bredy.

Sitter Family: We cannot begin to express our sorrow on the loss of your mom but even more to the point, we cannot begin to express our love for her and our blessing at being able to say we were dear friends. If we all told just one story we would be here for months on end. I have just a few people whom I consider my "forever friends" and Marion was one of them! Like I told you earlier, you all will be just fine because you have such a strong sense of family. Your will continue to love and support one another forever. If we could all have just a touch of Marion in ourselves, the world would be a better place. She is home with God and with Benjie and enjoying her best Christmas ever!! Love you all.

It has only been a few days since the passing of one of the most important women in my life. and like everyone else, I miss her so much already! She was my godmother, my "Auntie Marion". Everyone of my childhood memories of North Dakota, starts with her and my Uncle Ben and their house and garden on 10th street. We would come from Washington with the highest expectations, which included getting to her fallout shelter and those dill pickles! The last time I saw my Auntie Marion was here in Washington at my mom's b-day bash, she was so brave to get on that airplane and fly and then cross that mountain in a car!! She kept me up all night talking on the couch, I'll remember that as the best time! So, I just want to tell her, to have a safe journey to my Uncle Ben's side, and not to worry, Wally may not be there to hold your hand in the sky, but God will! P.S. Thanks also Auntie Marion for the "Fingerhut". I Love You With ALL My Heart.
Your God Daughter,
Kathy

Nieces, Nephews and in-laws: cannot really express the deep sorrow I feel at the loss of your mom, who was my sister and also my friend. She was the glue that was still keeping the Sitter Clan together and can't imagine a world without her. As Tom once said, your dad taught you religion but it was your mom who taught you all how to love - and thats what she was, pure love. I'll always miss my Maid Marion but her love will live on in my memories and she will always have a special place in my heart. Love you all,
Auntie Carol (Hagatha)

To the Sitter Family ~ May God Bless you all at this time. I worked for your mom and dad - many of you may remember me - back in the late 70's at Ben's Fairway. Your parents were both great people. Thoughts and Prayers are with you.

We were shocked and saddened to hear the news of your mother’s death. Unfortunately, holiday work schedules won’t permit us to be there for the funeral, but know that you are all in our thoughts and prayers. I hope you take comfort in knowing she is with your dad and her Lord this Christmas. Wherever you saw Marion, you heard her laughing and having a good time. I will always remember the laughter. I'm sure she'll continue being "the life of the party".

Mary,Jim,Austin & Chris Wolff,
We want you to know that you and the all the Sitter family are in our thoughts and prayers. I know how difficult this must be for all of you during the Holiday season. I found a story in today's Life section of the Bisamrck Tribune that reminded me of loved ones we have lost, and have had to spend that first Christmas without them.

"Remeber that the Christmas is about the celebration of the man who conquered death. Christmas is here to remind us all of his promise to deliver us from death. Christmas should be a time for us to remember those that have left us behind and know that the season is meant to celebrate our belief that death is not the end, but an obstacle we can overcome. Hold your family who are still with you tightly, but hold the family members who have left you even tighter, within your hearts and memories."

From what I hear, Grandma Sitter was a special lady and was very lucky to have a family as wonderful as yours. God bless you all and may God's strength guide you in this difficult time.

My sympathy to all of Marion's family. Marion was a classmate of mine starting in 3rd grade. I remember the wonderful chocolate chip cookies her mother made and she shared with us in school and in her home. She was an angel.

Dear Sitter Children,
Very schocked and sad to hear of the lose of Marion, our favorite aunt. We attempted to leave for Bismarck last night but had to turn around as the roads were solid ice. We awoke to 6 inches of snow this A.M. and it is to snow through Sunday morning. Please know we would be there if possible. Our prayers and thoughts are with each of you.
Love,
