Marjorie was born Sept. 6, 1930, in Underwood, the daughter of Clarence and Margaret (Christensen) Lockrem. She was the oldest of seven children. They moved several times so she grew up and attended school in various North Dakota locations. Marjorie struck out on her own as a teenager, finding employment with a Denver family.
She was an avid reader and self-educated in many subjects. She enjoyed art, literature and music and was interested in health and nutrition and studied astrology and numerology. Before getting married, she also worked at the phone company.
Marjorie married Bernard Solberg in Bismarck in 1951, and they had four children. In the mid 60's, she attended secretarial school and worked as a secretary in Bismarck. In 1970, Marjorie moved to Seattle, where her brothers and sisters lived, and continued to work as a secretary. In the late 1970's, she moved to Skagit Valley, Wash., where she purchased several acres of land. She worked as a medical transcriptionist at Skagit Valley Hospital, until she retired. In 2003, she moved back to Bismarck to be near her children.
She was a full-time Mom and was an excellent seamstress, gardener, home decorator and cook and participated in the local homemakers club. She sewed clothes for her family and decorated an addition to the farm home, that was featured in a local magazine. She liked antique furniture, which she refinished and reupholstered herself. Marjorie loved all animals, but especially dogs and horses. Most of all, she did many special things for her children, to show them how loved they were and helped instill a strong interest in reading and education in them.
She is survived by her children, Gerard (Marlene) Solberg, Chatham, Ill., Richard Solberg, Bismarck, and Cydra (Kyle) Sauter, Bismarck; her brothers, Richard (Florence) Lockrem, La Conner, Wash., and Leslie (Linda) Lockrem, La Conner; her sisters, Bonnie Pleuss, Mt. Vernon, Wash., and Sharon Kling, Seattle; four grandchildren, Kristen, Mikel and Morgan Solberg, and Drew Martin; and many nieces and nephews.
Marjorie was preceded in death by her parents; her youngest son, Rodney; and her brothers, Jerry and Larry.
