Marlow Lindblom Obituary

Marlow Lindblom

Marlow Lindblom, 67, Bismarck, died July 31, 2006, after a year long battle with cancer. Services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, Aug. 4, at the Cathedral of the Holy Spirit, Bismarck, with the Rev. Thomas E. Kramer officiating. Burial will be in St. Mary's Cemetery.

Visitation will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Eastgate Funeral Service, Bismarck, where a rosary will be held at 7 that evening.

Marlow was born June 20, 1939, in McLean County, to Ruth Borg and Lynn Lindblom. He was raised on the farm outside of Butte. He attended school in Butte, where he starred in basketball and graduated salutatorian from Butte High School in 1957. After graduation, Marlow attended the Minot Business School 1957-59, and in 1958, married Marcella Kramer, Minot. They moved to Bismarck, where Marlow worked at the Mandan and Bismarck Red Owl stores. In 1965, he began a career in the printing business at Quality Printing. Following that, he joined Leland Mast Directory Company, selling yellow page advertising. In 1977, he became a partner in Fronteer Directory Company, an independent yellow page advertising company, until 1997, when he founded Design Wizards Graphics and Data. His well deserved retirement began in 1999, at which time he and Marcy started spending their winters in Lake Havasu City, Ariz.

Marlow spent many years involved in the Bismarck Jaycees and received various awards throughout his years of service with them. He was a life time member of the Bismarck-Mandan Elks. In the community, he was best known for his involvement and organization of local softball tournaments and eventually the annual McQuade Charity Softball Tournament as their manager for over 20 years. He loved to play golf, pinochle and spent many weekends at the family cabin on Brush Lake. A couple of his favorite pastimes were making sure his lawn was free of dandelions and cruising Brush Lake on his pontoon.

Marlow is survived by his wife, Marcy; two daughters and their spouses, Michelle Lindblom (Doug Eggert), Bismarck, and Marla Lindblom-Trautz (Bill Trautz), St. Cloud, Minn.; two sons and their spouses, Mark (Dianne), St. Cloud, and Michael (Lynn), Bismarck; his grandchildren, Mckenzie Lindblom Eggert, Daniel and Lisa Heitzman, Jesse (Kron) Erickson and her husband, Aron, and Jason Kron; his mother, Ruth Lindblom, Bismarck; his two sisters, Julie (Rick) Bucholz, Bismarck, and Linda (Gary) Knodel, Minot; and two brothers, Russ (Coletta) Lindblom, Bismarck, and Bob Lindblom, Drake.

He was preceded in death by his father, Lynn Lindblom.

Marcy, Aunt Ruth and family,

This is such a sad time and our thoughts and prayers are with you. I was very fortunate to have spent time playing and "working" at the farm with Marlow when we were kids. When Marlow, Uncle Lynn and you came to visit my mother several years ago the time we had together was very special to her and me. I wish I had had the opportunity to spend more time with Marlow and all of the family.

Lots of Love,

John, Ann and David

We knew Marlow from the National Yellow Pages industry where Marlow was a business associate of ours through both Fronteer Directory and Design Wizards. His infectious laughter and honest business style will always be remembered, as well as the personal friendship he extended to us. Our deepest sympathy to Marcy and family.

We at McQuade Distributing will miss hearing Marlow in "his" office answering his tournament cell phone with, "Marlow here!" Also his optimism and cheerful presence. We are so grateful for all the years he worked to make the tournament the great success it is. He is truly irreplaceable.

Our very best to your family.

I have fond memories of Marlow and recall the very first time I met him in Hazen, ND. He was a National Director for the Bismarck Jaycees Chapter and stopped in my grocery store to talk about starting a new chapter in Hazen. Years later when I joined Fronteer Directory he extended his hand of friendship again and continued through email until his passing. He will be missed by so many. May he rest in peace. Marcy and family may God comfort you during this difficult time.
