Mavis Stastny Obituary

Mavis Stastny

May 15, 1939 - November 3, 2025

It is with a heavy heart that the family of Mavis F. Stastny of Mandan, N.D., announces her promotion to Heaven on Monday, November 3, 2025, at 86 years of age.

Visitation will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday, November 6th at Buehler-Larson Funeral Home. A funeral service will be held 10 a.m. Friday, November 7th, at Redeemer Lutheran Church in Mandan. Burial will follow at Mandan Union Cemetery.

Mavis was born in Wing, N.D., to Vernon and Louise (Brohn) Bailey. Mavis was the youngest of 10 children. She attended and graduated school in Wing and later attended Valley City State College where she received her teaching certificate. During her early years of teaching, Mavis taught 1st-8th grade in country schools and then worked for Bell Telephone in Bismarck.

Mavis married the love of her life, Glenn A. Stastny Sr., on June 8, 1965. From this marriage came four sons: Glenn Jr., David, Bryan, and Keith. Known for her epic gardens, pickles, and bread baking among other things. She also loved to make quilts/afghans for her grandchildren and great-grandchildren; everyone has received one. Mavis and Glenn enjoyed driving trips mostly to see family, which included their yearly Medora trip. Along with these, they went to Hawaii and a cruise to Alaska.

She was a born caregiver from raising her four sons and being very active in their education, as well as in the education of her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Family was her everything.

Mavis is survived by her sons, Glenn Stastny Jr. (Rodine), David Stastny (Sheri), Bryan Stastny (Leslie) and Keith Stastny (Amber); grandchildren, Justin Stastny, Joshua Stastny, Nicole Parker, Bryson Stastny, Kendall Stastny, Abbigail Stastny, and Kole Stastny; great-grandchildren, Brielle, Griffin, Ozzie, Callum Stastny, Kyler, Kambrie Stastny, Eleanor, Henry, Avery, Cordelia, and Isla Parker.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Glenn Stastny Sr.; her parents; siblings, Lois Seelye, Alta Anderson, Leonard Bailey, Kenneth Bailey, Marion Iverson, Joyce Bailey, Earl Bailey, Irma Bailey, and Grace Bailey; grandson, Grayson; and two great-grandchildren.

My condolences to the family and friends of Mavis. She was a wonderful person with a beautiful smile and a a twinkle in her eye. She was always busy crocheting blankets for her family. Her goal was for each of them to have a blanket made with love from her. I was honored to have known her.

Our deepest condolences to Mavis's family. We will always remember our great visits with her & her husband at family picnics. She always had a smile. We admired her gift of crocheted Afghans for others.
