Pauline Gierke

Pauline Maryann Gierke, 56, Bismarck, passed away Jan. 24, 2014, at her home. A memorial service will be held at, 10 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 29, at DaWise-Perry Funeral Services, Mandan. A gathering of family and friends is scheduled for one hour prior to service.

Pauline was born in Aberdeen, S.D. to Paul and Virginia (Zacher) Houn. She was raised in Strasburg and graduated from Strasburg High School. Pauline worked in various types of trades including: waitressing at the Red Lobster, cleaning carpets for Montgomery Wards, bartending, and for many years she worked at Central Dakota Hospital in the laundry department. Pauline enjoyed sewing, playing darts and dancing. She especially loved being a mother and a grandmother. She will be dearly missed.

Left to treasure her memory include her mother, Virginia Houn, Strasburg; four daughters, Bobbi Jo (Travis) Toepke, Mandan, Billy Jo (Casey) Pippenger, Williston, Brandy Jo (Jeff) Halland, Minot, and Daisy (George) Werlinger, Denver; one son, Michael Gierke, Rapid City, S.D.; two sisters, JoAnn (Todd) Glass, Lincoln, and Alice (Faron) Bornhoeft, Underwood; one brother, Albert Houn, Strasburg; and seven grandchildren, Aaron, Ryan, Kailin, Brecklyn, Samantha, Miah and Brynlee.

Pauline is preceded in death by her father, Paul Houn, and step-father Joseph Feist.
