Peter Schaff Obituary

Peter Schaff, 86, formerly of Mandan, died Feb. 11, 1998, in a Bismarck nursing home. Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, at Christ the King Catholic Church, Mandan, with the Rev. Al Leary officiating. Burial will be in Mandan Union Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. today, at Weigel Funeral Home, Mandan, where a parish vigil will be said at 7:30 p.m. tonight.

Peter was born Nov. 10, 1911 in Morton County, the son of Chris and Antonia (Vocht) Schaff. Peter was raised and educated in Solen. He married Rose Schaff on Dec. 27, 1938. Peter was a hard worker who farmed in the Bowman and South Mandan areas while he was a building contractor for Schaff Construction. In 1972, Peter semi-retired and moved to Mandan. Rose died on Oct. 17, 1983.

He was a former member of Knights of Columbus.

Peter had an outgoing personality and loved to visit.

Peter is survived by five sons and two daughters-in-law, Clarence, and Kenneth and Catherine, all of Mandan, Dennis, Spearfish, S.D., Donald, West Palm Beach, Fla., and John and Bev, Missoula, Mont.; four daughters and two sons-in-law, Leona Fowler, Bismarck, Geraldine and Oscar Jochim, and Pauline and Dave Enyart, all of Mandan, and Sharon Gustin, Bromfield, Colo.; 28 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Philip and Eva, and Christ and Eleanor, all of Mandan; and two sisters and one brother-in-law, Katherine and Leonard Combs, Bismarck, and Ida Kuntz, Mandan.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his spouse, Rose; two brothers, Steve and Frank; and three sisters, Helen Gerhardt, Peggy Zent and Margaret Schaff. (Weigel Funeral Home, Mandan)
