Evangeline "Van" Hart, 80, Bismarck, died March 12, 2015, at CHI St. Alexius Health, Bismarck. A memorial service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, March 18, at House of Prayer Lutheran Church, Bismarck, with the Rev. Joel Samuelson officiating. Burial will be held at 1 p.m. at North Dakota Veterans Cemetery, Mandan. Cremation has taken place.
Evangeline Edith Schlag Hart was born May 29, 1934, in rural Anamoose, the daughter of Ludwig and Martha (Frank) Schlag. She was raised and attended country school on a farm north of McClusky. She attended Drake High School and later worked for North Western Bell Telephone Co.
Van met the love of her life in Bismarck and married Milton "Mick" E. Hart on July 28, 1956. The couple moved to Finley. Van started her career with credit bureaus when she began working with Credit Bureau of Albuquerque in Albuquerque, N.M., which led to other credit bureaus in many other cities. Mick retired from the U.S. Air Force in 1968 and the couple made their last move to Bismarck. Van retired from Dakota Credit Inc. in September of 1996. Mick passed away in 1997. Van went back to work part-time for DCI, until leaving to spend time with her daughter, Marcy, who had cancer. Spending time with her family and friends was Van's biggest joy and pastime. Her grandchildren were her pride and joy.
Van is survived by her son, Pat Hart, Bismarck; her grandchildren, Ross and Taryn Kalka, Grand Forks, Mindy Hart, Bismarck, Jesse Hart, Bismarck, and Alicia Hart (Jeremiah Walker), Bismarck; one great-grandson, Greyson Walker, Bismarck; one brother, Donald (Marian) Schlag, Summerset, S.D.; one sister, Phyllis Tussey, Peru, Ind.; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her daughter, Marcia "Marcy" Lynn Kalka; her husband, Mick; her sister, Viola O. Schlag; and her brother, Arnold "Richard" Schlag.
