Steve Miller
Steve F. Miller, 97, Mandan, died April 13, 2009, at Medcenter One Living Center, Mandan. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 9:30 a.m. Saturday, April 18, at Christ the King Catholic Church, Mandan, with the Rev. Kenneth Phillips as celebrant and the Rev. Casimir Paluck as concelebrant. Burial will be in Mandan Union Cemetery.
Visitation will be held from 1 to 9 p.m. Friday at Weigel Funeral Home, Mandan, with a Christian Mothers Rosary at 4 p.m. and a parish vigil at 7 p.m. Visitation will continue one hour prior to the service at the church on Saturday.
Steve was born May 12, 1911, in Morton County to Florian and Eva (Daub) Miller. He received eight years of formal education before taking on his passion for cattle and grain farming. On Oct. 7, 1936, he married Veronica Zander at St. Vincent's Catholic Church in Crown Butte. In 1966, they moved into Mandan though Steve continued to spend time at the farm and worked some part time jobs in town to keep busy. Steve and Veronica shared 34 wonderful years together until her death in 1971. In October 1974, he married Elizabeth (Zander) Fichter in Mandan where they shared 32 years. Elizabeth died in May 2007. Those who knew him will remember how Steve loved to visit, play pinochle, dance, travel, and most of all his daily walks, as many people will remember seeing him around town.
Left with many memories is one daughter, Joan (Albert) Kovash, Mandan; two grandchildren, Ken (Deb) Kovash and Faye (J.C.) Castro; four great-grandchildren, Lance and Rachel Kovash and Tanner and Mckenna Castro; one step-daughter, Doris (Chris) Crennen, Denver; three step-sons, Donald (Sandra) Fichter, Thomas Fichter and Elmer (Irmi) Fichter, all of Lakewood, Colo.; six step-grandchildren; one brother, Joseph (Tillie) Miller, Mandan; and one sister-in-law, Irene Miller, Mandan.
He was preceded in death by both of his wives; his parents; three sisters and brothers-in-law, Katie (Albert) Taghon, Tillie (Ted) Taghon and Rose (Pete) Sturn; two brothers and one sister-in-law, Peter (Clara) Miller and Ralph Miller.
