Steven Craig Stack, 54, Hardin, Mont., passed away Oct. 10, 2017, at his home. Services will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 17, at First Lutheran Church, Mandan, with The Rev. Christina Martin officiating. Visitation is scheduled for 5 to 7 p.m., with a prayer service beginning at 7 p.m. today, at DaWise-Perry Funeral Services, Mandan. Visitation continues one hour prior to the service at the church. Burial will be in Mandan Union Cemetery, Mandan.
Steve was born Nov. 28, 1962, in Mandan, to Ronald and Darleen (Bahm) Stack. He was raised and educated in Mandan, where he graduated from high school in 1981. In high school he was president of FFA and VICA and also studied welding. As a child, Steve loved riding horses, motor cycling, and working on vehicles. He was often behind practical jokes that were sprung on friends and family. He was a story teller in a large family, and could have a room full of people in side-splitting hysterics. He loved Montana and spent summers there on his uncle's ranch, eventually making Hardin his home. Steve worked for 11 years as a mechanic on the seismic ship Geico Prackla Slumberger, then a rafter designer at Advanced Truss, and currently as a mechanic at the Hardin Coal Mine. Steve was a master woodworker all his life. He was always willing to help others with a project, and will be loved and missed by everyone that knew him.
He is survived by his mother, Darleen Cairns, Mandan; his sister, Noel, California, his brother, Robert, Mandan; and numerous nieces, nephews, aunts, and uncles.
Steve was preceded in death by his father, Ronald; grandparents, Tony and Elizabeth, and Emil and Anna Bahm; and step-father, Jim Cairns. In lieu of flowers, the family prefers memorials be made to the charity of your choice.
