"All you have to do is Get the ball and RIP it down and Go back up HARD and them little things will foul you!" While smiling and slowly swinging his arms, this is one of the many things that Mr. Ike would tell us everytime he saw one of us drive in for a bucket...and miss. It was fun to be around him because no matter what he did, he would always make us laugh. "One time he took our sunday academy class out to eat (Crab Legs) at Prairie Knights and when we walked in there were buckets on a few of the tables (For the crableg shells) and Ike refused to sit there because there were "leaks" in the ceiling and he didn't want to get water dripping on him while he was eating... Haha, Those are the times that I am going to miss... Thanks for being a good friend "Grandpa Tom" and We will remember you in may, when we graduate.... When we seen you at Sams Club a few weeks ago, You Promised us that you would be there... ~Swan

"How much does she weight now," Tom would ask. "Wow she's grown," he would say even if it had only been a few days since he had seen her last. He would stand her up on his lap and she would smile and coo at him and he would smile and talk back to her and tell her stories of when her grandpa and daddy were babies. Tom loved his great-granddaughter and unfortunately his time with her was short-lived. She is only 4 months old now and I wish they would have had more time together because I know that she would grow to love her great-grandpa as much as he loved her.

Tom was a caring teacher for the students of Solen - Cannonball. I'll always remember how they would confide in him, and he would help them out with jobs, a place to stay, etc. He left his mark on a lot of young lives, and I'm sure lots will remember him. I know I will!

Tom played a huge part in working with tribal students during the Sunday Academies and the Summer STEM camps at NDSU & Ft Yates. His ability to relate to the students accross several generations was a model for the rest of us. He had a way to spin a story that just captivated people of all backgrounds & ages. His smile will be missed by those of us working working in these projects.

Tom was a wonderful man and will surely be missed in the life of his family and all who knew him. He died too young and suddenly and my heart is with his family in this time of sorrow.

Dear Tom, Jr. and Family,
I was saddened to hear about the death of your father. I worked for both Tom and Margo
at the Airport Cafe in the summer of 1970.
It was a busy cafe and I remember the great pies Alvina, his mother, would make. We really had lots of business on Sundays. It was
a simpler and more innocent time than we live in now as far as airports go.
I taught at Northridge School for 33 years and one year in Nevada and I decided to retire.
My husband and I are both retired from teaching.
I remember you as a student at Northridge. I
didn't have you in my homeroom, but I took
care of you at recess, etc.
You had two wonderful parents. but they died
too young.
Our thoughts and prayers are with you and your family. Take care.
Love, Sharon (Gegelman) and Glenn Bertsch
