Dr. Nancye Ann Sugg Johnson, of Elizabethtown, passed away peacefully on September 13, 2021 in Cape Fear Valley Medical Center after a brief illness.
Nancye is survived by Clemuel Mansey Johnson, her husband of 65 years. She is also survived by her children, Ann Bramble (Mike), Art Johnson (Johanna), Tillie Clark (Stephen), Lee Johnson (Tara), Alice Johnson, and Morris Johnson (Beth). She has 12 grandchildren, Jenny Bramble, Elizabeth ("Liz") Bramble, Laura J. Smith (Bryson), Carmen Johnson, Mary Katherine Clark, Will Clark, Eli Johnson (Anna), Jared Johnson, Hanna Haynes, Brenna Haynes, Grace Johnson, and Robert Morris ("Rob") Johnson; one great-grandchild, Calvin Johnson; and several loving nieces and nephews. Also, left missing Nancye is her loyal lap companion, her dog, Truffles.
She is survived by one sibling, her sister, Martha Sugg Fleming (Bill) of Morganton.
She is predeceased by her parents, Dr. Arthur Vance and Mary Morris Sugg, and her sister, Mary Susan Sugg Hill.
Nancye was born in Apex on July 24, 1934, and spent much of her early childhood in Dunn. As a teenager Nancye and her family lived in Chicago while her father attended optometric school. Once his studies were complete the family moved back to North Carolina. Nancye graduated from Benson High School in 1952 and attended Mars Hill College. While making plans to transfer to East Carolina Teachers' College, she worked at Johnson Cotton Company where she met the love of her life, "Clem." Needless to say, her plans to attend East Carolina Teachers' College changed. "Clem" and Nancye were married on November 26, 1955. They made their home in Dunn until moving to Maryland for "Clem" to attend dental school.
Once "they" graduated — Nancye jokingly claimed to have earned two degrees — one in optometry while helping with family chores during the time her father attended school, and another in dentistry while helping "Clem" earn his dental degree — they made their home in Elizabethtown.
Nancye was a loving, supportive wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, daughter, sister and aunt. She lovingly cared for her very busy family of six children, and their families. Nancye was a gracious hostess and excellent cook. Many will miss gathering to enjoy her good cooking, especially her pound cakes and banana pudding. Nancye sought the heart of God, and was a loyal and true servant of His. She loved the Lord, told everyone about Him, and freely ministered and counseled anyone in need. Nancye was ordained through the Family Prayer Center Ministries in Tulsa, Oklahoma, in 2005. She and "Clem" were active members of the Elizabethtown Presbyterian Church for many years. In recent years they have been attending the Open-Door Ministry in Elizabethtown. Nancye will be greatly missed.

We may be thousands of miles away from where we met Nancy, but she continues to be in our thoughts and we remember the great times we spent with her and Clem. Truly one of a kind and I know much loved by many. May and Tom Anderson.

Despite the fact that we are now back living in Scotland, Tom and I will never forget our old friends in North Carolina and we were honoured to count Nancy amongst them. She is sorely missed.

We will always remember Nancye. We met she and Clem at "Raleigh Auction", where we had a shared love of antiques. Her spirit and enthusiasm was an inspiration to us all. We now live in Scotland, but will never forget our friends in North Carolina and we certainly counted Nancye amongst those.
