Doris "Doedy" Polk

HENDERSONVILLE-Doris "Doedy" Herr Polk, 80, passed away Wednesday, September 16, 2015 at home in the arms of her loving husband, Ralph. She left us to be with our dear Lord and Savior.
Doedy was born on October 29, 1934 in Louisville, KY to the late Kennett and Ruth Herr. She married her husband, Ralph on April 11, 1953 and devoted every minute to her husband throughout their marriage. Doedy was his anchor and beacon; and was an extra ordinary mother and extremely sweet grandmother.
She spent most of her life doing God's work directing the church choir in each and every town they lived in, until she and Ralph retired 24 years ago. She also lead several adult choirs and a youth group, in which both her children sang, and grew to a group of approximately 78 voices. This group was well known in the whole state of Virginia. Doedy was a member of Hendersonville First Presbyterian Church. She continued after retirement volunteering at her church as head usher, kitchen help, and as the assistant librarian. Doedy could be found every week at the Council on Aging serving lunch. She enjoyed her beautiful gardens and feeding the birds. Doedy was a wonderful hostess to her many friends and neighbors, as she loved to entertain.
A memorial service will be held at 3:00PM on Sunday, September 27, 2015 at Hendersonville First Presbyterian Church.
