Jeanette Fortune Obituary

Surrounded by loved ones that adored her, Jeanette Fortune, 84, of Hendersonville was called home to Heaven Thursday, January 21, 2016 at Elizabeth House.
Jeanette was born in Madison County, NC to the late Bertie and Fred Anderson on October 8, 1931 and resided most of her life between Hendersonville, NC and Homestead, FL. Jeanette was one of fourteen close-knit brothers and sisters that she loved dearly. She was preceded in death by her brothers, Carroll, Vaughn, JC, Charles and Guy Anderson; sisters, Helen Smith, Leola Alexander and Barbara Bivens; and son-in-law, Eddie Wood.
Jeanette was a charter member and faithful servant of Gethsemane Baptist Church of Hendersonville, in which she was part of an extended church family that she cherished. She spent most of her career in the food and beverage industry most notably as Owner/Operator J&J Restaurant and Freeman's Lunch of Hendersonville and long-time Manager of Shriver's BBQ in Homestead, FL. Her love of cooking was something that she shared and passed on to her loved ones over the years. Some of our favorites include her Famous Fried Chicken, Chicken and Dumplings, Potato Salad, Chocolate Biscuits and Thanksgiving Dressing.
Jeanette is survived by her daughter, Norma Wood of Hendersonville; two sons, Rick Praytor and his wife Karen of Asheville, Joey Praytor and his wife Julie of Mauldin, SC. She is also survived by her sisters, Juanita Westmoreland, Inez Lyday, Ruby Gilbert and her husband Dwight, and Marie Smith all of Hendersonville.
Affectionately known as "MamaNet", Jeanette is also survived by eight grandchildren, Jonette, Mitch, Amber, Laurel, Jacob, Chris, Greg and Brad; twelve great-grandchildren; three great-great grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews who cherished Jeanette's love and humor and who will dearly miss her.
While many were at her bedside, her last words to her family were "I Love You all in a Special Way." The family takes comfort in Jeanette's faith that can be best described in 2 Timothy 4:7-8 "I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race and I have remained faithful. And now the prize awaits me – the crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous Judge will give me on the day of his return."
A funeral will be at 2:00 pm Tuesday at Gethsemane Baptist Church. Revs. Danny Pridmore and Mitch Corn will officiate. Burial will follow at Forest Lawn Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 pm Monday at Gethsemane Baptist Church.
The family requests that any donations be made to Four Seasons Foundation (Hospice Elizabeth House) at www.tmcfunding.com.
