Ralph Polk Obituary
Dad was raised in Spartanburg, SC. His family moved to Louisville, KY while he attended the Citadel. After college he joined the church choir where he met our mother, Doedy. They were married for 62 blissful years when she passed away in 2015.
Mom and Dad moved to Milwaukee, WI where Steve was born. Dad was called to active duty by the Air Force, and proudly served in the Strategic Air Command. Following the Air Force, we moved to Richmond, VA, where Ginger was born. He worked for Pitney Bowes in Washington, DC for 26 years. He retired from there and went to work for the Library of Congress.
Dad was an avid tennis player until just a few months ago. His other great passion was woodworking where he created Queen Ann style reproduction furniture. He handcrafted much of the furniture in their home as well a number of items for the Hendersonville Presbyterian Church.
Surviving Ralph is his son Steve Polk and his wife Ellen, his daughter Ginger Valentine, his sister Gigi Dunn and her husband Bill. He has four grandchildren, Melisa, Jessica, Jacob and Rachel and a great grandson, Liam Polk Hoffman.
Our love and adoration go out to Carol Eder. Carol kept our Dad safe and sane these last few years. She will always have a special place in our hearts.
A memorial service will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Saturday, July 14, 2018 at the Hendersonville Presbyterian Church.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that donations in Ralph's memory be directed to the Hendersonville Presbyterian Church Building Fund, 699 N. Grove Street, Hendersonville, NC 28792.
