William Laughter Obituary

William (Billy) Harry Laughter of Hendersonville, NC went to be with the Lord on Saturday June 3, 2017 at Pardee Hospital.
Billy was a man beloved and respected by all who knew him and who were fortunate to have their lives touched by him. Billy's impact on others will pass on through the ages. He was just that kind of gentleman.
Born and raised in Edneyville, NC, Billy was a farmer all his life. Billy loved the land and was a descendant of many generations of farmers. He was the son of the late Green Berry and Ella Mae Hill Laughter. He was proceeded in death by one sister, Kay Pendleton and one beloved grandson, Ben Moss.
Billy's accomplishments were many and too numerous to list but to name a few; he was a graduate of NC State University with a Bachelor of Science in Horticulture and a lifetime Deacon at Mt. Moriah Baptist Church. For over 20 years, Billy was the President of the WNC Apple Growers Association and was a member of the Edneyville Grange for 64 years. In 2010 Billy received the Lifetime Achievement Award from the Blue Ridge Apple Growers Association. Billy was an Honorary Lifetime member of the NC Apple Growers Association and served on the board for many years.
The listing of any accomplishments or awards can in no way tell of this wonderful man's impact on all he touched or reflect who he really was.
Billy is survived by his beloved wife of 64 years, Peggy Ledbetter Laughter, 2 sisters, Marie Pryor and Katie Hercik (Joel), 1 brother, John Laughter (Sandra), 2 sons, Steve and Grayson Laughter (Amy), 3 daughters, Janet Guttenberg (Steve), Ellen Moss (Lynn Sprague) and Billie Sue Johnson. He is also survived by eight precious grandchildren: Joe Ben Martin, Niles Martin (Barbie), Priscilla Walker (Marcus), Ashley Godwin (Kenny), Miranda Laughter (Chris), Matthew Johnson, Will Laughter and Katie Laughter. Lastly, Billy is survived by his so very special 16 great grandchildren, along with many nieces and nephews, all of which he so loved and adored.
A memorial service will be held Saturday, June 10, 2017 at 11:30 am at Mt. Moriah Baptist Church with Rev. Dr. Bryan Melton officiating. The family will receive friends beginning at 10:00 am at the church.
Please join us. This will be a time to mourn, yet celebrate a life well lived. Billy was a man and gentleman for this time but also for all time. We can share pictures, memories and many a fun story. We can celebrate a beloved man who cared for all he knew and who loved and touched everyone around him. For you see - Billy was a farmer who loved and nourished the land as he also loved and nourished every soul he touched. Let us all join together for this special time together.
