Frances Sybil Joiner Mills

1938 - 2025

Frances Sybil Joiner Mills was born on Gasparilla Island, Florida on November 26, 1938, and spent her early years growing up in the unique coastal environment of the surrounding islands. She passed away peacefully at her home in Rotonda West, Florida, on March 26, 2025, surrounded by her loving family.

Sybil was married to her beloved husband, Billy Mills, for 59 wonderful years until his passing in 2016.Together, even though he could never get her on a boat, they built a beautiful family of five children:Melina (John), Selina, Willie (Tracy), Monica (Randy), and Waylon (Angie). Her legacy continues through her 13 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her brother, Lamar Joiner Sr.

Sybil was known for being incredibly hard-working, fiercely loyal, full of love, and a huge sports fan.She passionately followed the Miami Hurricanes, the LA Dodgers, and eagerly awaited the start of every football season. While she held many roles throughout her life, her favorite and most cherished title was "Nannie." She playfully insisted on being called Nannie instead of Grandma, believing that "Grandma" sounded too old - a sentiment that brought smiles to her loved ones because she was, infact, the best Nannie anyone could ask for. A private family celebration of her beautiful and joyful life has already been held.

In lieu of flowers or other gifts, the family would appreciate donations in Sybil's name to Tidewell Hospice, an organization that provided compassionate care and support.
