John Ashworth Obituary

John Ashworth, formerly of Marion OH, Boca Grande FL, and Cedarville, MI passed away on September 20, 2025 surrounded by his family. He was 91. John was born on April 15, 1934 in Huntington, W. VA. to Lewis J. and Johnnie Summers Ashworth. He was preceded in death by his brother, Summers, in 2008. He graduated from Marion Harding High School in 1952, Ohio Wesleyan University where he was a Phi Gamma Delta in 1956, and University of Michigan Law School in 1959. John went on to practice law at Ashland Oil Corp. in Ashland, KY, and then into private practice in Marion, OH. He was past president of United Way in Marion and served as School Bd. President for Marion City Schools. John was also Commodore of the Les Cheneaux Yacht Club in Cedarville, MI, where he and his family created many happy memories over more than 50 summers. It was his favorite place in the world. But nothing meant more to him than his family. He was happiest when he was with them in both FL and MI. He leaves his wife of 68 years, Rosemary Baxter Ashworth, his three daughters, Julie Glover(Jeff), Amy Pendery(Tom), and Molly Tate (Bobby), and 7 grandchildren-Benjamin Pendery(Devin), Liza Galliher(Patrick), Tyler Glover(Kelly), Henry Glover(Amy), Sam Ashworth, Maggie Bibb, Braxton Ashworth, and 6 great-grandchildren. A service is to be determined at a later date. Memorial gifts can be made to the Les Cheneaux Yacht Club Foundation at lcyachtclubfoundation.org or First Union Church in Cedarville, MI. Online condolences can be given at dmefuneral.com. Dobbling, Muehlenkamp-Erschell Funeral Homes are serving the family.
