Gerard Porter Obituary
Gerard Isaac Porter, age 60, of Warsaw, formerly of Bolivar, passed away on Friday, Oct. 17, 2025, at his home after a long and courageous battle with heart failure.
He was born on Dec. 13, 1964, in Kansas City, Missouri, the son of Leo and Rita (Staab) Porter. Gerard grew up in Warsaw and graduated from Warsaw High School in 1983. He went on to earn his Doctorate of Chiropractic from Cleveland Chiropractic College and passed state board exams in Missouri, Florida, Kansas, and Arkansas.
On July 19, 1986, he was united in marriage to Brenda Elizabeth Legendre. Gerard and Brenda were not only husband and wife but best friends, devoted to raising their nine children, traveling together, fishing at the lake, and cherishing time with their grandchildren.
Gerard was known for his tireless work ethic, yet he always made time for adventure, laughter, and making memories with his large family. Together, he and Brenda owned and operated Chiropractic Health & Wellness Center in Bolivar for over 35 years. As a passionate believer in holistic health, Gerard was widely respected as a gifted healer who helped hundreds of patients improve their well-being. Even in his own battle with heart failure, he defied expectations and added many meaningful years to his life.
Above all, Gerard's greatest mission was to share the message of Jesus Christ with his children and grandchildren. His faith was the foundation of his life and will remain his lasting legacy through generations to come.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Leo and Rita Porter; a brother, Benjamin Dimitri Porter; a son, Isaac Gerard Porter; a beloved uncle, Fred Staab; and his father-in-law, Ronnie Legendre.
Gerard is survived by his loving wife of nearly 40 years, Brenda Porter, of the home; and nine children, Mikaela Porter of Leasburg, Kassidy Stewart (Travis) of Billings, Grady Porter (Ashley) of Bolivar, Whitney McTavish (Corey) of Battlefield, Allison Porter and Jillian Porter, both of Burnsville, North Carolina, Camille Porter of Kansas City, Kansas, Brielle Porter of Joplin, and Ellaina Porter of Warsaw.
He is also survived by seven cherished grandchildren, Eva, Walter, and George Wertich; Rosalene and Waylon Stewart; Ophelia and Frederick Porter. Other surviving family members include two brothers, Leo Porter (Katherine) of Warsaw, and Jock Porter (Britta) of Highlandville; two sisters, Jennifer Porter of Warsaw, and Roxana Eckhoff (Dustin) of Lincoln; two sisters-in-law, Becky Pflumm (Don) of Overland Park, Kansas, and Amy Crowley (John) of Mission, Kansas; his mother-in-law, Bev Legendre of Clinton; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, extended family, and many dear friends.
Funeral Mass will be at 11 a.m. Friday, Oct. 24, at the St. Ann Catholic Church in Warsaw. Interment will follow the funeral at Riverside Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the Knights of Columbus Hall in Warsaw following the burial.
