Norma Childs Obituary

On Sunday, Nov. 16, 2025, Norma Faye Childs passed away in her home. Norma was born in Juliaetta, Idaho, to Elsie and Lloyd Phillips. She graduated from Lewiston High School in 1954, earned her Bachelor of Arts from Cascade College in 1959, and later received her Master's in Education from Oregon State University. On April 7, 1957, she married the love of her life, Carl Childs, and together they shared nearly 67 years of devoted marriage. Norma dedicated her life to education and service. She began her career teaching high school English for 13 years before transitioning to elementary education within the North Clackamas School District, where she spent more than 20 years inspiring young minds. Her students and colleagues remember her for her patience, humor, and unwavering compassion. Her kindness extended far beyond the classroom. Norma had a gift for creating a chosen family wherever she went, offering friendship, comfort, and guidance to anyone in need. She visited nursing homes to bring joy to the lonely, sent heartfelt cards to those on her church's prayer list, and never hesitated to pray with others. Her life was defined by quiet service, steadfast faith, and genuine love for people. A devoted member of the Church of God, Norma remained faithful to her beliefs throughout her life. She is survived by her children, Debra Nelson, Doug Childs, and Denise McKnight; grandchildren, Sarah Nelson, Abigail Nelson, Camron Childs, Robert Kelley, David Hartman, and William Hartman; and her great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband Carl, her parents, and her grandson, Michael Hartman. A memorial service will be held Sunday, Dec. 7, at 3:30 p.m. at Step by Step Dance Studio, 1722 S. Glenstone Ave. G, Springfield, Missouri. She will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered.
