Winifred Berniece Walker

1930 - 2023

Winifred "Berniece" Walker, 92, of Bolivar passed away on Wednesday, June 7, 2023, at Citizens Memorial Health Care Facility in Bolivar.

Berniece was born on Aug. 14, 1930, to Arthur Kelley and Alma Lambeth Kelley. Berniece graduated from Bolivar R-1 Schools in 1948. She was saved at Mount Olive Baptist Church.

Berniece began work with Bolivar Telephone Company in 1948 and was employed with them until 1955. While working for the telephone company, Berniece met Leo Glenn Walker. Their first date was Nov. 15, 1948, they were engaged March 6, 1955, and were married Sept. 4, 1955. Berniece and Leo lived in Kansas City, Kansas from 1955 until their return to Bolivar in 1990.

Not having had children of their own, Berniece and Leo loved, and were loved, by numerous nieces, nephews, and other family members.

Berniece was preceded in death by her husband, Leo Glenn Walker; her parents, Arthur and Alma Kelley; her sisters, Lois Kelley Bigler, Willa Jean Kelley, and Zoe Kelley Sowards; her niece Carol Bigler; and nephew Kelley Brown.

Berniece is survived by her nephews Kevin Kelley (Tracey), Mike Brown, great-niece Casey Kelley Mountain, great-nephews Mike Newman, Matthew Kelley, Michael Kelley and many other family and friends.

A visitation will be from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Friday, June 9, at Butler Funeral Home in Bolivar. Services for Bernice will be at 10 a.m. Saturday, June 10, at Greenwood Cemetery, Bolivar.
