Alice Nelson, 96

Alice Mary Nelson, 96, passed away in the evening of Friday, November 7, 2025 in Sandpoint, Idaho. A Celebration of Life will be held at 1:30 pm, Friday, November 14, 2025 at the First Lutheran Church, Sandpoint, Idaho, with the Rev. Duane Fister officiating.

Alice was born on January 13, 1929 in Kootenai, ID to John and Grace (Hibbard) Orr. Grace died when Alice was four years old. John became very ill and Alice was given up for adoption at the age of six. Ben and Alice Stockman were her adoptive parents. Alice graduated from Sandpoint High School in 1948.

Alice married Jim Nelson on September 12, 1948 in Sprague, WA, they had two sons and one daughter. Among Alice's most significant accomplishments was raising her children (and Jim). She was Bonner County Treasurer from 1969 – 1991 and was proud of ushering that office into the computer world.

Alice was a devoted Christian and most of her activities and interests revolved around the First Lutheran Church. She served on the church council, was a past-president, and taught Sunday school. She was also a member of P.E.O.

Alice was meticulous, smart, impeccable, empathetic, thoughtful, ornery, and, most of all, loving. As a child she was never told she was loved so she made it her mission to express her love for others. The family is grateful for the outpouring of love and prayers during Alice's decline, form Luther Park staff, First Lutheran family, and so many other special friends.

Alice was preceded in death by her husband James W. Nelson and her grandson, Gabriel J. Springsteen, both in 2006.

She is survived by her son Mark (Sonoe Otsuka) Nelson of Yokosuka, Japan; daughter Leslie (Larry) Noem of Custer, SD; and son Jon (Angie) Nelson of Clarksville, TN; grandchildren are Marshall (Sarah) Nelson, Wyatt (Tara) Springsteen, Erika Nelson (Rich Montone), and Ashley (Forrest) Uribe. Great Grandchildren are Charlotte, Shannon, and Conner Nelson, Axel and Piper Springsteen, Wayland and Utah Nelson. Alice is also survived by her niece, Penny Armstrong, and dear friend Stan Curren.
