Jamie Delano Lockman, 89

Jamie Delano Lockman passed away April 16, 2024.

He was born on December 10, 1934, at home north of Bonners Ferry, Idaho, to Lester and Helma Lockman. He was the fourth of 12 children. He attended school in Bonners Ferry until he reached the eighth grade, which is when he dropped out of school to help at home. He recalled getting all the younger siblings ready and off for school each morning and then helping with the family needs at home doing anything from cooking, cleaning, chores, and milking goats to caring for the youngest siblings. He said that his dad worked countless hours to provide for the 12 children, so everyone had to do their part.

He served in the U.S. Air Force from March 1956 to April 1962. During this time, he married Bette Jo Weaver on August 10, 1957. They had three children, Jim, Bethine and Rick. Jamie said he really enjoyed his time in the military and was proud to serve our country. He said he would've served even longer if he didn't find his passion for farming.

After completing his six years of military service, he and Bette found a house in Libby, Montana. He worked as a carrier logger and ran his farm. He claimed that he and Leon were the people you called when you needed a difficult tree removed. He used to tell a story of a tree that these "young guys" couldn't safely get out due to its compromised location, so they gave him a call and he fell it with no problem and people watched in awe as he used his technique to flawlessly fall this tree. Whether or not it happened just like that will forever remain a mystery, but he was proud nonetheless. He may have been a little bit of an exaggerator when it came to things like falling trees, the size of fish he caught, or how far of a shot he took to get a deer. It always seemed to change each time the story was told.

In 1967, he found the perfect place to build his farm and raise his family in Troy, Montana. Jamie and Bette were married for 45 years until she passed on May 15, 2002.

He spent most of his time farming, gardening, fishing, hunting, and spending time with family and friends. Jamie spent many hours creating large gardens and keeping them stocked full of fresh produce; most of which was donated to the senior citizen center in Troy, Montana. He took a lot of pride in helping others in any way he could.

Jamie and his first wife, Bette Jo shared a love and passion for the 4-H program. They both were very involved with the group. Bette had been a devoted member of the Bonners Ferry 4-H for many years and Jamie soon recognized the importance of this program and got involved. He worked to establish the 4H program for Troy, Montana, after helping in Bonners Ferry, and Eureka, Montana.

Jamie loved talking to people. If you were joining him on the rare trip to the big city (of Bonners Ferry) you would know without a shadow of a doubt you would spend about 30 minutes getting the errands run and the rest was spent talking to anyone who would listen. Every Thursday you could find Jamie usually accompanying granddaughter Kaytie at the Chick 'n' Chop in Bonners Ferry before heading to the livestock auctions.

Jamie married Rose Allenberg in 2004. They were married for 20 years. They both enjoyed gardening and spending time with their families.

Jamie Delano Lockman is preceded in death by his father, Lester Lockman; mother, Helma Berg; brothers, Earnest, Allen, Leroy, Chuck, Larry, Lonnie, Gordon; sister, Barbara. He is survived by his wife, Rose Allenberg; siblings, Mick, Danny and Cheryl; children, Jim (Dottie), Beth (James), and Rick; grandchildren, Stacia, Jennifer (Chad), Cindy (Carl), Kaytie (Joel), Kymmberly; great-grandchildren, Leo, Titan, Scarlett P., Kyah, Scarlet, Hunter, and Ember Jo.

Jamie loved his family, friends, and country. May his memory be carried on through good memories by his friends and family.

Jamie Delano Lockman's funeral will be held on May 4, 2024, at 11 a.m. (PDT) at Bonners Ferry Funeral Home located at 6485 Harrison St, Bonners Ferry, Idaho. Following the service, we will be gathering at Cheryl Myere's home located at 6156 Louisiana St., Bonners Ferry. The family would like to invite anyone who knew and loved him to attend.
