Norma Syth Obituary

Norma Jean Syth, 89

Norma Jean (Langford) Syth, born on June 23, 1936, in Wagner, Oklahoma, moved to Bonners Ferry, Idaho, as a child. Her father operated a ferry, and swimming became her passion. She spent her summer days either swimming behind the ferry or at the town's public pool. Bonners Ferry held a special place in her heart, where she met the love of her life, Duane Syth, who lived just a few houses away.

Duane & Norma decided to tie-the-knot at the Coeur d'Alene Hitching Post. They moved around a bit, starting in Kalispell, Montana, to Post Falls, Idaho. Eventually, they found their forever home in the picturesque town of Sandpoint, Idaho in the early 1960's. There, they continued to pursue their passions, grow their family, and establish their farm. Norma and Duane had six children: Steve, Rick, Linda, Tom, Kim, and Kristi. Later followed by 11 grandchildren, 26 great-grandchildren, & 3 great-great-grandchildren.

Along with raising her own children, Norma also raised some of her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She even helped raise some of her nieces and nephews, in times of hardship. Norma was a true blessing from God, and if you had the opportunity to know her, you were truly fortunate.

Norma, a devoted mother, placed her family's well-being above all else. She meticulously prepared for any disaster, ensuring an ample supply of food for everyone. Her greatest desire was to witness her children's success. Norma participated in the elections at Northside Elementary School and was involved in local card-playing parties with other women in Sandpoint, primarily playing Pinochle. As a devout religious woman, Norma constantly prayed for her family's well-being, marking every significant date in her Bible with blessings.

On a Saturday evening of November 15th, Norma peacefully passed away in her own home. She is reunited with her dear husband & our Lord & Savior. Norma Jean is survived by her youngest sibling, Marlene (Langford) Larson, & all six of her children. Norma & Duane may be gone from our sight, but never from our hearts.

The celebration of Norma Jean Syth's life will be held on December 13, 2025, at 1 p.m. at the family farm located at 569 Rapid Lightning Road, Sandpoint, Idaho.

Family and friends are invited to sign Norma's online guest book at www.coffeltfuneral.com.
